Angle is probably about 75-80 degrees. I spoke with Dirk from DPG about this and in his opinion shackle angle is not as critical as everyone claims it to be. Obviously you don't want the shackle angled out or straight vertical. All the shackle relocation brackets are just another way for companies to make money, in his opinion.

My springs still need to settle some more so the angle will improve, but at this point I have nothing to complain about as far as ride quality goes.

I disagree with the money claim but I definitely agree with the severity of angle aspect. As long as you aren't vertical (or past vertical) you should be okay.

Welp heres my junkyard find, an '86 Chevy stepside in surprisingly good condition. I have been wanting to build an offroad style trailer that would just be used to carry extra gear and my kayaks. But after talking to my dad and others I decided that being able to haul my ATV would make the trailer that much more versatile. It is a little larger than what I originally wanted but keeping it simple should keep it lightweight.

Ok, so onto the plans… Im kind of undecided but here are my general thoughts.
-Same wheels as jeep and same size tires
-Full size spare? Maybe, or just use the spare from my jeep if need be.
-Build frame, fenders, tailgate
-Hoop rack system for the kayaks and maybe a soft cover to go over the hoops for sleeping in the trailer and to keep dust/weather off my gear
-I'd like to wire it with some auxillary camp lights
-Jerry can mounts
-lockable aluminum box on the tongue
-articulating hitch, probably build one like my dad has built before
-Dodge caravan axle if its got the correct bolt pattern
-XJ leafs or something similar

Keep the Chevy flares for style! Obviously color match.

Any plans for a RTT? A lot of folks are switching to the RTT on the trailer nowadays.

Why not just buy a trailer axle with brakes?
Honestly I didn't realize they were pretty cheap! Might be kind of nice to have brakes but not sure if I really need them.

I think I'm going to ditch the chevy fenders and build some flat jeep style that will be a bit more useful, like for standing on or setting a stove etc on them. As for a RTT I think I will either use the tents I already have or sleep in the trailer if I get some sort of cover. However I am able to get a good deal on Oztents and they look pretty sweet....

One of my main goals in the build of my jeep and trailer is to try and keep the weight to a minimum if possible, so I'm trying to stick with just the essentials. I'm finding it kind of difficult though since there's so much cool stuff available nowadays.

No real updates for the rig, but I do have some plans for the near future! However the XJ has been getting a little bit of offroad use. My Dad and I loaded up the dog and some lunch for a day trip to go check out Slickrock. Neither one of us have run this trail so we didn’t really know what to expect. Reviews seem to rate it about the same difficulty or a little less than Deer Valley which we’ve run many times.
Turned out to be a beautiful day! It was very pretty coming across the trail and seeing some new territory. Quite a few people on the Alpine lake side of the trail for a Friday but only saw one JK run the whole trail just in front of us. The jeep ran great other than needing to adjust the linkage for the transfer case so it will stay in 4lo. It even walked right up the staircase first try. I’m loving this set up!

Couple small updates…Like most I figured it might be a good idea to get a fire extinguisher . So I ordered a 2.5lb ABC and got it mounted. I also ordered a TC shift linkage from Boostwerks a while back and finally got it installed. Pretty straight forward and much simpler than the factory design. I definitely feel like it is good upgrade especially for the price.

Also picked up a TCI trans temp gauge and a gauge pod. Not 100% if I'm going to use the TCI gauge or not, I didn't realize you have to drill a hole in the pan to install the sensor and that seems like a bit more work than what I wanted to do. We'll see...

Another update:

I've seen quite a few threads on brake upgrades and it seems that across the board on various forums that Black Magic is the way to go. So I ordered up some of their Centric rotors/pads and had them a few days later. Today I installed them and began the first part of the break in process. I'll update once I've had them for a bit.

Out with the old and in with the new!

How's that boost works linkage holding up?

So far so good, I feel like its a great upgrade for the price. No idea on longevity yet though.

Went for a short trail ride with the girl yesterday. Brought the dog along as well and tried to do a little fishing
