I hope it allows better connectivitiy. My wife just got a new MBP with Leopard 10.5.7, and the process of setting up my shared printer and media drives that are on my Vista box so that her Mac can "see" them is driving me absolutely nutty. Suffice to say that it does NOT work as advertised.
The Snow Leopard disc is available from Amazon.com for $25.
Reports are circulating that it can be used to upgrade OS/X Tiger
(10.4) as well as OS/X Leopard (10.5). I'll give it a try.
Rather than a radical departure, Snow Leopard is a fine-tuning of
the Leopard release. If you've got Leopard running now, you can
safely wait for a while before moving to Snow.

I bought the disc today from the apple store and ran the very simple install without any trouble. The process took ~45 mins and I didn't have to do any restarting through the process it is hands-off.
Before the install my harddrive stats:
145.73 GB capacity
65.55 GB Free
85.18 Used
After the install:
159.7 GB capacity
76.56 free
83.14 GB Used
11 GB free!
Iphoto seems to pop faster, that's all I got so far.

going to upgrade one of the machines to try it out
the other one I will install on another HD and run that with my old one while I build it up and test out each ap I want/need then when I know everything is working I will move over the last stuff (mail folders etc..)
whenever I upgrade I keep my other boot around for a while just in case
I also have my two extra SATA ports on my pros hooked up with a extra drive cage inside so I have 6 HDs in my Pro towers
one of the HDs is partitioned in two with

one one day the other the next day allows me more time to revert if I need to

since the macs are so easy to boot to a new HD got to love OS X

got to love OS X Despite Apple's warning not to try this, I successfully upgraded my iMac from OS/X 10.4.11 to 10.6! No problems, no requests to insert the original OS/X disc, nothing. I made a backup of my files before I started, but it was not necessary. All the files, and configuration information like which programs to launch on startup, position of the dock, and so on, were preserved.
The upgrade couldn't be easier. With the computer running, insert the Snow Leopard disc. In a few moments, click "upgrade" (rather than "restore"). There are a few dialog boxes presented in the first 5 minutes of the upgrade process, but after that it's entirely automatic. I went to bed so I can't say how long the process took. In the morning, the process was over and the machine was running OS/X 10.6.
