Lol!!!! Oh man, I completely understand brother!!! I used to live in a neighborhood like that and it was no fun!!! That's what caused the break from my build. We bought a foreclosure that has been a total gut job, but its on 3/4 acre. I had a 30x30 built!!! It's awesome and no HOA!!!!! While I realize they have their purpose, just didn't work for me :)

Yeah not only that but ALL the public lands down here in SW Florida have become private or off limits to motor vehicles. To legally go off-road now entails nearly an hour ride each way and $40+ per day to ride around with a 1000 other folks in monster trucks, swamp buggies, or hopped up 4 wheelers/SxSs.
We're actually going to look at places in Arkansas next week! I'm done with the hoopla in my little slice of heaven.:suning: and get back to what I grew up with :REOutShootinghunter:tent::1888fbbd::safari-rig::campfire: AND :suning:

Funny, we'd prolly get along great!!!!! I complain to my poor wife about the city all the time. We go vacationing up in the mountains of NM every yr. There's a mine of some sort just outside of Red River. Every yr we drive by it and I tell my wife, "I bet they have mechanical engineers there..." Someday maybe...

We're actually gonna head up to Arkansas for the wknd and leave the kids with mom and dad! Can't wait to leave the pavement!

Sometimes when building a one-off you will end up with acres of room for a system, others it will come down literally to a difference of a few degrees on essentially the same part! Case in point

My Cummins' coolant inlet is available in numerous incarnations. I had found a neat somewhat rare one that came in from behind its mount thus cleaning up the front of the engine, only to find out that it would interfere with my oiling system. I then decided to fall back on the piece that came with the engine it comes in from the front with about a 80* down angle. I then find out that when my axle articulates it will come dangerously close to the hose as it routes back up to the radiator, NO WAy around it! So I then find another that is on approx 45* down angle and forward orientation. This should allow reasonable hose routing now.

Cummins has been sourcing parts from different places as the industrial revolution works its way around the world. always to the cheapest bidder—regardless of quality these days it seems!
England->USA->Mexico->China and now….->India!
I understand this isn't a very intricate/precise part and that most everyone has been making it with sand casting but it seems the Indians are using a MUCH coarser sand and don't bother with knocking down the texture at all!! This thing felt like it was covered in 40 grit sand paper when I took it from the box! Alas a few minutes with the jitterbug sander and a flap wheel in a drill and its fine. Of course the machine work is nice and flawless and the texture wouldn't have affected the function one iota but I'm sure it would have held every speck of dirt/mud/belt dust that came near it despite painting unless I coated it with 1/8” layer of paint!

Anywho here's a few pics showing the differences. Notice the nicely contoured scallops around the heater line inlet inside the new part.

USA casting. It would definitely allow drilling and tapping for different connections vs the Indian one shown below

It can be an arduous task trying to find Cummins part numbers! It's cool that they've come in a variety of configurations! Nice work!

C.S., Its the "standard" 2.25" inlet. Sometimes it feels like Cummins has intentionally tried to make it difficult to find stuff to mate up to these engines ;-O
New part# for this 45* piece is 3934877. The number for the 80* (black) one is now 3934878. When searching I've found most mislabel these as outlets so do your search both ways and you'll probably double your results!

B.A., probably 10 yrs ago when I first knew I wanted to do one of these I bought a couple of Cummins books one of which listed just about every option made for these. Problem with Cummins is that every so often they take it upon themselves to arbitrarily change their number system!!!! The old black part begins with 390XXXX while all parts until recently started with 393XXXX. And of course they didn't keep anything the same as even a partial carryover number to help figure it out. The also come straight out to the side, to the side and roughly 100* down as well as to the rear and 90* down. The only configurations I haven't seen are straight forward and anything angled upwards.
By the way the numbers beginning with 39 have nothing to do with displacement as far as I can tell as some of the parts were only spec'd on 5.9L engines. Thankfully other than block, cam, crank, injection pump/lines, and oil cooler the 3.9 and 5.9 parts are interchangeable.

Thx. I've been concentrating on building a bed frame for my van lately, so no real progress to show on the Jeep probably until after Christmas.

The thought of cheap 2-1/2” spacers on the front of my rig at interstate speeds began to give me reason to pause. A couple of the holes weren't perfectly drilled on the lug circle and the material was so thick that I had a couple threads still showing on my normal height lugnuts.
After weeks of research I pulled the trigger on a brand hammer new set of wheels and tires!!!!
I wanted to use a set of like new H2 wheels I bought a few months back but their backspacing was ‘just' too tight at full steering lock.
So I sold my H1 rolling stock, sold the H2 wheels and brand new spare with a new BFG AT tire on it.
Through an exhaustive amount of web mining I found what should be one of if not the best tire for my needs/wants.
Mud traction- I don't drive an autocross car so…..
Wear- quality 37” tires aren't cheap
Quiet-a couple hours on the road in a thin steel drum with a large f'glass echo chamber bolted to the top filled with the soundtrack from a million angry bees wears you down quick.
Availability- How many ads have you seen for 3 used tires and said “Those are cheap!”, only to find they are discontinued?
Stability- I'll likely do some towing, if I can ever get this thing on the road! D range radial is as much as I need.

For the wheels I wanted common size, big brand name and a design that as been around and will likely continue to be (that replaceable availability thing again).

So I finally took the plunge after narrowing the field to 2 tire and 3 wheel options.

The 3-2-3-2 center lug pattern is supposed to all but eliminate road whine even on a tire this aggressive!

That is a penny laid in the tread. When viewed across the tire the top of it is just barely visible

My quandary about whether to go LJ or CJ8 length has also been made! I was kind of draggin my feet on tearing into the stretch since GOOD used tops for a Scrambler are either absurdly priced or they don't turn out to be that ‘good' when viewed as the person handing over the money vs being the one getting it. Used LJ hardtops are are unobtainium so I was going to have to shell out for a new aftermarket unit. Then one day my CL ad (had been up for months) got a nibble that sounded somewhat promising and now I have a period correct double walled ACME full length Scrambler top sitting in my side yard!!!! Unlike modern versions it even has opening side windows. Pics show it on the seller's Jeep.

Anyone looking for a factory CJ8 half cab!?
