Well, the annual ARRL Field Day is being held next month on the 26th and 27th.....What are you doin'?
Cuz, if you don't have anything planned at this point....you're just lame! Or, maybe you're just "mikeshy"....whatever, get over it!
Seriously, next month a group of local froaders is putting on a Field Day. Cruiserlarry has placed a post in this section that'll lead you to us.
If you've never worked HF and are curious....this would be the simplest way to get your feet wet and possibly learn a few things. The ARRL has engineered this event to be as complicated or as casual as anyone would want to make it...This'll be the first of what will hopefully be an annual event and,....we're definitely opting for casual. At the radio, it's pretty much a scripted affair with a quick verbal info exchange taking place between stations all over the North American continent.....We're going to try to make as many contacts as we can while giving everyone a chance to contribute as they see fit.
We're going to concentrate on true field operations in a way that would suit the offroad/overland traveler. It looks like we'll have 5-6 stations/bands operating under a number of different field deployable antenna options. Different source power methods will be demonstrated as well....battery, wind, gas generator, etc.
If you can make it for the whole event....great. If not, come up on that Saturday and check it out.
