Spring under or over axle?

With the current spring setup, there is NO wheel travel up and down, so I guess this is going to be a matter of aesthetics!

Why? too stiff of a spring? Lack of room between frame rail and axle?

Why go through all the trouble/work, to not have a decent suspension. To be honest, it looks like it needs to be spring over, just to gain a couple inches of height, and allow room for the suspension to actually work. Hard to tell without a picture of what you did with the suspension.

When I got it, it was a spring over. It sat way too high for my taste, to the point of looking silly, especially when hooked to the jeep. There is still considerable room between the axle and frame. There are just too many leafs in there. The trailer was originally set up for way more weight than it will ever see under my ownership.

Now it sits at a decent height, so it is just a matter of making a decision as to what height to mount the fenders at. I am thinking four inches of space above the tire will be about right, even if I do put a better set of leaf springs in there.

Gotcha, what leafs/shackle set-up did you go with? The same that was on there? I read where it didnt have shackles when you got it, which is basically the same as welding the axle straight to the frame.

I think my trailer has about 6 inches of clearance between the tire and fender, but its a little different set-up than you have.

I have a flat style fender like you are wanting. I am running a 31 x10.50 15 tire, and the bottom of the frame is 25" from the ground.

I got the diamond plate flat top fenders and welded them on a few weeks ago. Looks much better.

Not much progress since then on the trailer other than coating the inside of the body and floor with Plastikote truck bed liner.

Got new tail lights and will do a complete rewire in the AM.

Looking for ideas for a cover... or a lid... or ???
