Stan's AEV build.

I put Bassani pipes on one of my street bikes a few years ago and they were awesome. Great quality stuff. A bit loud, but I think it was the style I chose. I just put a magnaflow on my 92 F350 last week but it is getting replaced with a different one today. Great sound when I am on the throttle, but a brutal "drone" at towing rpm. Seeing as this is my tow rig and we are about to pull our camp tralier on a six month to year long trip, I think a quieter exhaust is a good idea. I am loving the build on your Bronco. Same as mine, only about six feet shorter! Good luck with the project.

I fell you on that. I have a 50 series now and I absolutely hate it. It sounds great when you get on it but right at 70 mph (2k rpm) it gets annoying. I've read good things about this Hooker, I'll let you guys know how I like it.

I posted on FSB asking a question about your exhaust....
I see why there was no reply as you've not installed it yet:sombrero:

I'm watching the build here ..I have a 96 and curious if the y -pipe will work once you've put in the extra bungs.

I thought about buying the bassani y-pipe with the cat on it...I don't mind running the cat I just don't want any CEL.

Nice bronco.

Everything but the headers on are. I'm digging the new sound a lot. Quiet at idle and cruising speeds, and throaty when I get on it. I'll get pictures tomorrow; its late and I'm studying for a Chemistry test :coffee: The tailpipe hangs too low for my taste, but I now where I'll cut it when the trails get to it. I'm going to leave it as is for now, I'll worry about it when it actually becomes an issue.

Good luck on your test...

so no issues with the single cat ?

no CEL?

Thanks and no CEL. As long as you put the O2 sensors in you'll be fine. Thats the good thing about MAF in the '96's; they'll adjust the air/fuel mixture to get the correct ratio. If the last O2 sensor reads that you're running rich (because you don't have a cat), it'll lean out the system. I suppose if you're running way too rich it'd throw a code, but it shouldn't.

I took it for a drive tonight, getting a little brain break. I think I got rid of my old exhaust leak, but I'm not sure. I think a hear a little ping ping ping noise, but its faint compared to before. Maybe its just my imagination because thats what I'm used to hearing or maybe its because I don't know what a solid exhaust system sounds like. Hmmm. If it still is a leak, more than likely my manifolds are cracked. More miles will give me a better answer though.

Here's a couple of photos. You can see how low the the exhaust hangs out the back; I'm going to wait till the rocks get to it though.

Here's some fun pictures I dug up for another post talking about the maneuverability of a FSB. Thought I'd share them here while I had the links out...

Stan... Do you have a shackle flip, or just 6" springs? I used a shackle flip for my lift and I"m wondering how much work I'll need to do to get the Maramount pipe to exit without interfereing with the springs. Also, did you have to install a second O2 bung, where did you take and how much was for the install of it? I have to crawl under mine tonight to see exactly how things line up, but I'm making a parts order exactly like yours (minus the headers) once I get the parts list figured out. I'm tired of the original, stock, quiet exhaust.

I'm only running a 4" lift, so I have a 3" AAL in the rear. Look up TommyR's build on FSB, IIRC he had a shackle flip and was one of the first to do the M30001 pipe. His pictures are in the earlier pages of the tailpipe thread.

I had to install two extra O2 bungs. One on the drivers down tube and one after the cat. I just plugged the passenger side into the stock '95 location and it hasn't caused any problems. Labor was free because it was done by me :ylsmoke:

*EDIT* I posted Tommy's picture on page 2, he does not have a shackle flip either. I don't think it will fit good with the shackle flip, because my spring already hits the tailpipe when I'm flexed out. If you cut it shorter, you'd be fine though.

My truck, a '96 has three O2 sensors, one on each down pipe (passenger and driver) and then one after the second CAT just before the stock muffler. So I guess I'll have to weld in two bungs also.

Thanks... I thought I might have a problem with the pipe exit... But I also don't have an issue with just pointing it down towards the rear side behind the tire, so I guess I'll go that route if it doesn't work out right.

When you installed the additional O2 bungs, you did all the welding yourself? That will probably cost me $60 or so, since I can't weld stainless, only mild with my MIG. Thanks for the help.

you can weld stainless with mig. you just need to get some tri mix gas and stainless wire and youll be good to go.

Actually for small welds like this, you only need stainless wire. Just work in a shop where there is no wind and your normal 75/25% will work just fine. Honestly, I don't know if the whole pipe is stainless like they say it is. There is a BIG color difference in the y-pipe itself and the cross over pipe between the two down tubes. The little cross over sticks to a magnet, the rest of the tubing does not... I'll let you decide though.

I'll get you some detailed pictures of everything come Friday.
