Storing and transporting a kayak with a E350 van.

I just picked up a 01 E350 extended body high top van.
On my previous van with a stock roof a standard gutter mount (thule) would and has worked very well... but with approximately10-12 inches of fiberglass betwwen the flat part of the roof and rain gutters I have yet to find a solution.

I'd like to do this without causing problems to the fiberglass, such as cracking or making leaks. Obviously lower cost would be great.

Toss out some ideas while I get some pictures posted tomorrow.

Sooner the better, after few other things to be completed I'm heading to Tampa to catch some fish.

Thank you for helping the less creative... me.

Those will work perfectly. I have those on my shell but from Yakima. You just drill through the fiberglass, bolt them up and are pretty sturdy. I did mine in an afternoon and also found some scrap metal and cut and drilled it to match the size so I had extra support on the inside of the shell. I know that these types of mounts are very popular for VW Syncro's and they have an extender that attches to the rain gutter mount for extra clearance. Make sure you find some silicone or something similar to prevent water from getting in!
