Stretching a frame

I stretched my TJ (heep) 15" last winter (I know not a LR but...) I had a blast doing the fab work. Total cost invested was about $800. As long as the frame has a straight section, cut there, add in disired length and hot glue gun it back together. Use fishplates if needed for strength. Lengthen brake, fuel, wiring and driveshaft.

It was a lot easier than I expected... here is the finished product:

Next plan is add 12-14" to rear to give it a pickup look and much needed storage.

EDIT: Wait... HOT GLUE??? Is this a joke, are you refering to Welding cause unless you're using aircraft epoxy that scares the bejezus out of me... Still a neat looking truck and I'll look forward to the P/U addition.

Not quite... an unlimited has 10" added to the center and 5 to the tail. I stretched 15" in the center and plan on adding 12-14" to the tail. It is also going to get less lift and 33" tires for a lower center of gravity. I also have a few other tricks up my sleeve of which I will start a build thread on when the time comes.

HIJACK OFF

Back to stretching the frame, by using a sleeve inside the frame that was stronger than the factory frame, I have no worries about the strength of the frame where I stretched it.

For me doing a project like this was like therapy, I had more fun doing this and so did the guy who helped me. His shop does primarily street rods and I think he gets bored doing just another hotrod. He always had people coming by and loved to tell them we were going to take a sawzall to it and cut it in half, the look on their face was priceless:D
