Yes, I did see your pictures. I don't want to come off sounding snooty but your terminals are still exposed. I'd like something that covers the stud and nut as well. Similar to what you would have covering your battery terminals.
I'll check Wrangler site out.
Cheers,
P

Not snooty but maybe somewhat confused by all of the pictures? In post #8 at the link to my write up there is a picture of my solenoid

battery004np0.jpg

I have a Manual solenoid and not the Surepower job with the exposed terminals. The boots cover things quite well if you look at the pix.

Now I get it!

Thanks for the clarification! I'll look into it.

Bingo! :sport_box

Following the lead given by teotwaki and a quick search on ExPo revealed the following source: Wrangler Northwest Power Products.

I e-mailed and found out that for $0.98/ea I can get my hands on the red terminal covers and $1.16/ea will net you some fancy black ones!

Shipping will be extra as ususal, but that's fine!

Thanks gents.

Hard to tell in my picture but there are the large covers and also smaller ones for the control terminals. I like having everything neat and protected as my warranty will be in effect for a while and Toyota mechanics will be under the hood at times. I also don't want them finding any excuses to void warranty claims!

How are you guys using the 1314-200 in a dual battery setup? Do you run everything off your primary battery (including starter) and keep the second battery as a fresh spare or are you running accessories off the second battery?

One of the primary purposes of the battery separater is to protect your primary starting battery. I run my accessories like winch directly off the aux battery. If you draw down the combined voltage below the cut off protection point, the separater will dissconnect the two batteries until the primary can be charged back up to full power, then it will allow them to be connected again.

Main vs. Aux. battery loads.

I run all my accecorries off my aux. battery (winch, lights, CB, 12V outlets, back up light, lights under camper shell, etc...). I keep the main battery for starting functions and vehicle power only.

Sure power problems.

I've installed my Sure Power unit up on the fire wall towards the passenger side on my Tacoma (pics to come later) and now it's not working properly! :(

For about one week it was working fine. I could actually hear it kick in when the voltage reached the correct level (over 13.2 V) for a few seconds. After stopping the truck it would disconnect after about 10 seconds. Today I noticed that it was not automatically kicking in. If I manually override it, then wait for a few seconds and switch the manual override off it stays on. Then when I stop the truck it disconnects. After about 20 starts today, it never automatically connected the two batteries but after manual intervention it would stay in and disconnect autmatically.

So, for you fellas with these units mounted under the hood have you had any issues? I'm thinking it may be temperature realted, but according to the specs it should operate fine up to 85 degrees C (185 degrees F). Does the engine bay get that hot? So if it's not the temperature, the unit could be defective. Any thoughts?

Cheers,
P

I would call the guys at Wrangler Power Products and ask them your questions. They are very helpful an have a ton of knowledge to help understand how the system is working (properly or not).

Mine is under the hood in Tucson and I have had no problems all summer.

Sure Power Model 1314-200 problems

Well,
I've been communicating the the good folks from Battery Direct (they are the Canadian distributor for Sure Power). They are replacing the unit under warranty! :jumping: Based on my description, they believe that the unit is defective.
I'll report in two weeks once the unit gets replaced.
Cheers,
P

Glad to hear they are taking good care of you.

 I pulled a bone head move on my dual battery setup and thought I should post up so others won't fall into the same trap.

My Manual overide switch to force the two batteries together is not marked very welll for the on and off positions. I accidentaly left the manual switch in the on position which energizes the separator's contactor coil. By leaving it in this position over two days, it pulled both my primary and aux batteries down to 9V. Both batteries checked out fine and I was able to quickly charge them back up to normal. It took me awhile to figure out what happened. Be sure you have your manual switch clearly marked. If I had done this in the back country, I would have been up a creek without a paddle.

I'm very happy with their customer service. It does pay long term to spend that extra bit of $$$ for quality products especially if you need customer service.

My switch has a bright red light that shines at you when it's activated for that very reason. Thanks for sharing and I hope that it does not affect the long term durability of your batteries.

Cheers ,

I'm starting to compile parts is this a good price for the 1314-200?

I think you should be able to do better, price wise. I just paid $110.99 CDN for one. The model number is slightly different: 1314CP, but I think it is basically the same unit(?). Mine was made by Sure Power for Coast Distribution System, Inc. which accounts for the slightly different model number. I did not shop around much for the best price, this seems to be the going rate at my local RV parts dealers.

Cheers

Assuming the alternator output is less then 100 AMP, is there any reason the 1314-100 would not work? The 1314-100 is rated for 100 AMP continuous, 400 AMP peak. Cost is $40 less then what I've seen for the 1314-200.

Also, p1michaud, did you need to relocate your cruise control module to mount your second battery?

Thanks,

Dave
