Suzuki sidekick sport???

Been looking at the sidekick sport for sometime as my weekend camping and once a year expedition vehicle. Is there a big difference between the regular jlx and the sport other than engine? Thanks...

sport has more exterior plastic to ruin/maintain. rumors of more "comfortable" interior. the auto's seem to hold up well. if maintained. in my opinion, the only drawback to these, besides IFS, is that the low range is FEEBLE! its 1.8:1. but there are 4.24 gears available from www.trailtough.com. great company by the way. the IFS has been known to hold up to 33's if driven respectfully. also, STAY AWAY FROM CALMINI. horrible product, horrible service, horrible company. you've been warned.

I had just about pulled the trigger on a Sport but went a completely different route. In my research, the Sports have a wider frame, which in turn gave it a wider track than the normal models. Not really a big deal unless you are planning to buy aftermarket parts like bumpers, skid plates and such. With the frame being wider, most of these parts will not bolt on without new brackets or modifications. From what I can tell, the actual suspensions are the same so those parts interchange as far as lifts and such.

I was just going to comment on the frame width, etc. There are more aftermarket parts available for the non-Sport versions. Zukrider -- are the low-range gears different in the Sport vs. non-sport? I have a '95 (non-sport) and have found the low-range to be fine for what I've done, but maybe that's just me.

i dont believe so. only differences are the axle gearing. ranged from 4.30 up to 5.63 i believe. depending on year, trans, and engine option. only t-case changes i know of are the spline counts for the rear output.

but to be honest, im not all that knowledgable. the frame thing is new to me, but great info! ive been thinking about getting an earlier XL7 and doing a toyota axle swap on it with 37's! the family crawler/expo camping rig! someday!

I know my '95 Sidekick JX (two door, 5-spd) has 5.13 gears, FWIW.

Warn, your tracker came with 5:12 rears. They came as 4.68, 5.12, 5.38, and 5.62's, but most of them are 5.12's

zukrider has is right, Trail Tough, and also Low Range Off road are great companies, and stay away from cr@pmini.
