Tacoma Alarm System - Removable?

I have what appears to be a KARR 4040A alarm on my 2004. The dealership says it's not a Toyota part so they won't touch it. I'd like to remove it though.

Does anyone have a clue how difficult it is to remove alarms systems? Will I likely end up with a truck that won't start?

It all depends on the quality of the system. You might have better luck trying to just disable it. Some of them can get wired into a few different systems in the car (doors, engine, ignition, etc).

Do you want to install a different system?

To disable, you could try removing one wire at a time from the box and see what happens. There's also a trick with some alarms though that they'll let you get it started, but the car will only move about 20feet, then it'll stop dead. Good luck.

At this point, I just don't really need/want an alarm. While this one seems pretty nice, it's overly sensitive, etc.

But you're right, it's the "car will only move about 20 feet, then it'll stop dead" that I'm especially worried about!
