I did something crudely similar about eight years ago on an Econoline for a different purpose, siphoning. Blow into the hose, slightly pressurizing the tank, and that would start siphon flow. There is a shutoff valve, and the fuel line is coiled behind and below the filler and access door.
My goal was to fuel a generator as needed. It's worked, but the supposed ethanol resistant submerged fuel line softened, crumbled, and needed replacement last year.
It has not caused any fuel shutoff while filling.
