to go wheelin!

Well, some of you may not be able to afford gas after April 17th.. and a few of you can now run out and buy some new mods for this trip.. or maybe you would like to hit a dirt road and escape from the IRS.. who knows...

But yep, we are doing the Saddleback run again. Yosh and I figure it would be a nice little break from unpacking tons of boxes in the new place. The plan is the same as the Thanksgiving Fun Run we had last year. The good old 'up and over'.

When: Saturday April 21st.
Time:9am- depart no later than 9:20am sharp! Please be fueled up already!
Trip Time:6-8 hours
Where: Mcdonalds off Lincoln Ave Exit /91 Fwy Corona
(South Side of Fwy, left off the off ramp, right handside)
What to bring:Tools, sack lunch, water, all the normal stuff.
Level of trail: Stock rigs and up. Fire road trails.

We will head out from Corona via Skyline drive **(hopefully it's still open) and take Main Divide to Saddleback for Lunch. From there we will travel to Ortega hwy (given that all the gates are open) to end our trail run. From there everyone will head home either into Orange County or the Inland Empire way.

**Cannot predict what the trail closures will be. However, i have alternative routes we can take. Please make sure you are fueled up before we depart.

That sounds fun. I used to live in Corona, up at the top of Border, by Border park. I remember taking my BMX bike through the orange groves to skyline drive and then up.:bike_rider:

I work on Saturdays, dang it. Hmmm I feel some rare tropical disease coming on.................

If I can swing it, I would like to join you. It's been many years since I have been up there.

I lived on Mesquite, directly above the tennis courts. Where you live now is where we used to ride our bikes, we had some nice jumps out there.:roost:

The poplation of the town was 10,000 at the time. (moved away in '83)
If you Drive up mabey canyon road (the dirt part) about a 1/4 mile, there used to be a bunch of old 40's cars buried along the wash, next to the road to prevent erosion. I wonder if they are still there.
I feel old talking about the "good ol days".

BTW Saturday is a definate maybe, I can probably swing the day off, now It's up to the wife to get the day off.

Sweet! Hope you can make it. A ton has changed man! You'll hate it! LOL

Where the heck is Mabey canyon in relationship to us? I still need to go explore.

Edit: I just checked it.. it comes out of the street above us.. wonder if there is a gate? I'll have to check that out tonight!! It's like all houses up there now.. probably shut down access... but we'll see..

Dude, hit up the canyon tonight... there's a fence with a concrete wall on the left now... probably where the cars used to be. But there isn't a fence or gate at the end of the street! I drove right in to the canyon. However, once you get in about a 1/4 mile there is 2 signs that say 'no tresspassing' so i stopped. I looked to my immediate right and there was another trail.. so i headed up that way. It took me up pretty steeply to a water tower. After the water tower it became a narrow trail just enough for a zuki. Luckily i had enough room to turn around. On the way back down some crackheads yelled at me to get the hell out.. but i wasn't on their land. I left the minute i heard them yell that. They proceeded down the private road. I didn't feel like getting shot by a bunch of loaded druggies.

pics..

If you guys do decide to proceed with the trip, it looked like there is quite some snow up there :). Don't quote me on this since, it was overcast today, but through the dark rain clouds, I was able to make out some white stuff. Wish I could go.
