I use all 3 sizes of the lanterns by Black Diamond almost exclusively now...I rarely break out the old white gas lanterns except for the backyard summer bbqs.

Steep and Cheap had either the Apollo or Orbit on sale for $17.24 I believe. Now I wish I had paid attention.

I just recently bought an Apollo. Now I finally understand. I had previously dismissed them thinking I didn't need anything more than a headlamp. And if I were to be honest, I don't need a separate lamp. But, it makes it so much more enjoyable.

I keep an Orbit with the backpacking gear that goes with on motorcycle trips. It works great, is small and lightweight. Was inexpensive, too :)

I have the snowpeak light. As is true for all of their products, its excellent. The color of the light output is superb, it's easy to use, has lots of dimming modes from too bright to barely bright enough, and can be used as a standalone picnic table light, or hanging in the tent.

The only thing I haven't fully figured out is the candle mode, where it flickers randomly. I can engage the candle mode, but it doesn't flicker for very long. It seems to be enertia based instead of a digitally programmed flicker. So if you tap the light, it will flicker for a while (only in Candle mode), but once is settles down it stays solid.

The housing is a soft malleable silicone, so it's virtually unbreakable.

EDIT: I reread the site linked above and it says "The Hozuki Lantern features an innovative Candle Mode that allows the LED to respond to sound or wind with a flicker of light" So that matches my experience. Not a lot of sound or wind inside my tent...depending on what we eat :)

I have used my Coleman Zephyr for several years now with great results. Added bonus is that its also a fan.

I picked up one of those recently as well.. The nightlight is a great thing for trying to get up in the middle of the night, not wallering someone without meaning it, it doesn't wake everyone else up and it doesn't jack up your night vision as bad so you can still see the dark blobs in the dark you're supposed to step over or go around rather than trying to pass through or kick them out of your way..
