After thinking about it for a while, we have decided to give it a try ..

There is an island in the Bahia de Ohuira close to Topolobampo, Sin, Mx (Right in front of Baja, About 250 Miles north of Mazatlan). called Santa Maria, the legend said that it was possible to cross by horse to it.

In the 40s a big hurricane changed the layout of the channels and since then you can only cross in a boat.

For some time now, we have been thinking about building a Panga to cross our 4x4s to the island and explore it for several days.

As of yesterday, we decided to give it a try on December, so all bets are ON !!

Next sunday we will start prospecting the crossing point and start designing the vessel (Jajajaja).

We`ll be needing some cars to try out the Panga, feel free to apply... :sombrero:

I`ll keep you guys posted ..

Some eyecandy ...

If you have not designed any boats before pick up a copy of the "The Nature of Boats" it covers all the basics of different designs. THere are a ton of factors to consider here so if you guys have not done the research on boat building yet you have alot of work ahead of you. Good luck and kep us posted!:lurk:

Personaly I would proably buy look for a skiff that has the wieght capacity to carry the heaviest rig and buy it. The drive on logistics of a panga may be tuff since it would have to be a stern load which would mean going over the motor. A skiff on the other hand would allow a bow load which wold be easier.

Its gonna be a low tech crossing, we are going to strap together 3 pangas (Local fishing boats) and cross car by car, this sunday we´ll do our first survey.

Thanks for the photos.

We did our initial survey today, after some trouble with the right of way we finally secure a route and could scout the possible crossing point.

Here is the chilean ship as seen from shore.
