Got new lens for Christmas (15-85mm efs). Went out to Stansbury Island in the Great Salt Lake today to try it out. It's much better than my old kit lens. Depth of field is amazing.

15-85, wow what a great range. I'm going to have to look into that. I use a 16-35 for just about everything, but the are times I'd like a bit more reach.

Here are some shots from my first B&W 35mm roll. Ilford delta 400. Canon AE-1 Program. 50mm f/1.8.

Thanks. I think my next lens will be a 35mm prime. I wish the damn things didn't cost so much.
Look at the Sigma 35 1.4 Art. Easily the best 35mm prime on the market, in fact it's one of the best lenses at any focal length period. The only thing better is probably the $4000 Zeiss Otus. The Sigma is beautifully built, with optics that put the Nikon and Canon offerings to shame...and at half the cost. It's my favorite lens.

I took you advice and looked at the Sigma ART on line. They are about $400.00 less than the Cannon 35mm 1.4. I think I'm going to try and rent one and check out the quality. Thanks.

Shadow Play at Metate Arch

I made this image last year on a short family getaway to Grand Staircase-Escalante NM. I don't often photograph mid-day but there are times when the light and shadows can create interesting opportunities.
