The Cherokee is back?

I can see why people would like this new Cherokee and it'll probably sell in decent numbers.
It's just not my cup-o-tea.

I love the SJ (as do most if not all people here). It reminds me of a time when a kid could climb in the back of a truck and sleep on the way home from a camping trip, occasionally waving to cars behind you, with no worry of the police coming after your dad.
Sadly a modern one just wouldn't fit in with what society thinks an SUV should be these days. To survive it would have to be like the current Land Cruiser; very big, very luxurious, and very expensive.

So right on all points.

Am I the only who thought the XJ was itself a stretch of what is a Cherokee, the SJ?

Agreed and I really like my wife's XJ!

I love the old SJs a lot--I might even consider trading my JKUR for Jp Magazine's white SJ!!! (Well...for a day maybe) :bike_rider:

It's a childhood thing...SJs were my first jeep / offroad memories from when I was a kid in the 70's. Plus, the hospital where my mother used to be an emergency room RN used to send their SJ to pick up staff in the winter when nobody could make it to work because of snow.

The trailhawk has 1" lift factory I believe. Since it hasn't even been test driven yet, I highly doubt anyone has started making lift kits yet. It will probably take a 1 year or before any companies start rolling out aftermarket parts for this thing. Mopar might have something in mind, but I think the vehicle needs to hit lots before we start talking about lift kits.

I'd assume it will have similar support as the IFS/IRS Grands? Building a lift for something as complex as that suspension will cost a wee bit more than a lift for an XJ, and I think you'll have a more limited market because of that. If there's a way to make a "spacer" type lift with this suspension design, I'd imagine 2" would be the limit of that? That could be done for a reasonable cost depending on design.

Aside from the hideous styling, I believe that's the issue most have with the complex new designs of the new Jeeps. Older Jeeps can be modified easily and cheaply while the new ones take an engineering degree and a home equity loan to get it done. To most its frustrating and not worth the effort and the jeeps will just be soccer mom mobiles

Jeep invited members of the auto press to Moab to drive the new Cherokee. The test route included Hells Revenge and Fins n Things slickrock trails, plus highway driving in the area.

The embargo on publishing lifted today, and several blogs have generally positive articles about the experience.

Anyone comparing this to an xj....you know that the wrangler unlimited replaced the xj right? Face facts that this rig is built for the person who does not rock climb but wants a comfortable rig that can get them to their favorite camping spot, cabin in the woods or away from the concrete jungle. Mission acomplished! My wife and I are looking at one to go along with my JKU. I thought it looked weird at first, but behind the wheel it looks comfortable, capable and ready to go. we are going to order a trailhawk as soon as I get my harley paid off! ha ha!
