The far too easy 'Hi-Lift Jack' stowage solution

i really like the idea o fkeping everyhting clean and inside. but, what does everyone do after they use the equiptment?

in dsy's set up for example, wouldn't mud/sand/dirt be falling allover the interior of the jeep. not knocking your set up. it looks completely secure and out of the way. it just seems like everything that was all over the pull-pal/hi-lift would eventually be allover the interior

Its not that bad if you scrape and knock off the heavy stuff before stowing away. Usually doing some kind of clean up after playing anyway :)

i assumed that was the case. i use a pretty liberal coating of white lithium spray grease on the hi-lift. stinks and is messy. that's why i was asking the question. between that and the mud i think it would be a huge mess. i really like ho wyou use all available room. the pull pal stows away nice

Someone told me motorcycle shops have spray lub they use on the bike chains that is less messy, and doesn't attract/accumulate dust and dirt. It's made to not 'sling' off thed chain in motion. Not tried it yet but sounds good

i read some on the chain lube. i can't remember why i didn't go with it. after hearing you mention it again there is nothing that stick sout agaunst using it but i went withe the white lithium grease anyway. i think that hi-lift may suggest the grease? can't remeber but thanks for the sugestion

I store my hi-lift jacks in other people's trucks. Usually they are hundreds of miles away, which cuts down on the time it takes to unpack it.

I no longer pack a Hi-Lift in my Tacoma, has never been needed. I still have one mounted in the back of the FJ40 but its day is coming near an end :D

What jack do you use instead?

Thanks!

Option #1, factory Toyota bottle jack. They work in many (most) off-road tire replacement situations.

Option #2, exhaust jack, I've found it far more useful than the hi-lift, particularly in mud, off-camber situations, etc.

I'm also an anti HiLift jack person. I had one for donkey's years standing unused in the garage. I eventually gave it away to a friend.
Then I had an oops in the snow one night and needed to winch myself sideways off a cliff. Suddenly a HiLift jack became important in my life. Got one bolted to my roof rack now ready for another 15 years of lying idle. I don't like them but rather with than without.

Motorcycle Chain Wax. After use, I clean mine and blow it off with compressed air, then let it dry/heat in the sun. Then apply the chain wax liberally while the jack is hot. After it cools down a bit in the shade, the wax hardens/dries, and its ready to go in the interior with no mess, ready for use again.

mine has nevedr been inside the vehicle. the messy grease is not a concern. if were to go inside, i would consider something a little less messy.

I keep my 60" jack, 120cm alu-prybar and a shovel on the back. The jack never gets so dirty that it can´t be cleaned quickly with water from a nearby creek, snow or some WD40 and rags. And I usually keep it lubed anyway, so dirt does´nt stick that hard.

There is a Hi-lift, prybar and shovel mount built into my rear box, the box gets used for recovery gear and muddy boots.

It´s the same box as this Nissan Patrol has, only mine is unpainted and has mounts for a shovel and prybar next to the jack-mount.

Anyone storing one in a Plano gun case on their roof rack? I don’t want it in the truck. But seems like leaving it exposed isn’t good either?

I store mine inside behind the front seats in my f 150 extend cab it is in a case made for it (don't remember where I got it from... maybe do a search for Hi-lift hard case) under a net that secures other stuff stored there in case of an accident..... just open the end out it comes all put together... and back in dirty or not!
