Well the good news is that I still have all of the pictures and most of the tapes.

We are dealing with the insurance company now - hopefully I can retrieve most of the material losses. I still can`t believe it happened.

Christian, so sorry to hear about the theft, but glad to hear you are back home safe and with some salvageable damages. I am also glad that you are back home because that means you are probably planning to meat us in South America already :D

Yep I am at the Montreal airport right now waiting for my flight to San Francisco. In theory I should be in my OWN bed tonight...no more crappy mattresses, no bed bugs,no mosque prayers noise, or anything else.
Just my gf.

:)

Unbelievable.

The theft sucks but at least I did not loose any pics or memories.
Looks like the insurance will replace all the objects - the cash is the only questionnable loss. I am slowly starting to get over it but it's been by far the worst event of the entire trip - and it happened 45 km from home. Quite ironic but also illustrates well where the real dangers are.

I think the worst now is to think that some low-life has been through all my personal stuff. I have always think (even way before that) that theft is not punished strongly enough - at least in Quebec. It's almost cultural.

Luis, yes South America is a serious possibility. I sold the Troopie because I want a more powerful and comfortable vehicle - although I am also considering the Syncro. The Troopie is unbelievable but lack serious power to affront the mountain and highways of South America. Also I did not want to have a RHD the entire time. It's not that bad but it is sometimes very irritating - the worst case being when you want to overpass a truck on a single lane freeway and you can't see ahead at all.

The Syncro is not nearly as reliable as the Toyota but it has better interior space and with a bigger engine could be powerful enough. It's also much easier to have parts shipped from CA to Central/South America than Africa if need be.

Wasn't Scott supposed to go to South America too this year?

all right time to board the plane...

That was a really swell read. I think you should take that photo of your truck on the three boats and make it your avitar.

Cool trip, thanks for sharing!

They found my suitcase!!!!!!!!

Unbelievable. The company investigator called us this morning.

Everything is there.

I guess we will never know what really happened - but I am sure they did not want to pay back $10000 of claims.

This is the best ending ever.
