The Josh's M416 Trailer Build

VanIsle_Greg

I think I need a bigger truck!
When I am not camping with the RTT, I am camping with our Travel Trailer...no more tent camping for my wife. Me, I am not a fan of sleeping on the ground anymore, bad back from a MTB incident (10 foot to flat drop at like 50KMh). I hear you though, all that time and effort to build, it seems wrong NOT to use the trailer and the RTT. This is exactly what is eating me up right now. I actually considered selling it...god forbid.

Now Im curious now that a lot of us have trailers that we camp out of I'm sure we still have out regular tents and camp gear, with that said do any of you go camping without your trailer or do you feel like it's too Much work?'

My trailer is still very new to me and I spend a lot of time and effort building it and it was supposed to be out of the body shop yesterday so we can take it up to Kennedy meadows this weekend. But I got a call yesterday from the body shop that it won't be ready til Monday -pissed as I was they said they would make it up to me which I'm sure equates to a discount. Anyway we had this weekend planned and now no trailer. I still have all my regular camp gear but my trailer is just so new that I don't want to regular camp, its too much work and with all that effort I put into the trailer I just don't feel like going back to regular camping just yet

I just picked up my trailer 3-4 weeks ago (turn key), and I wouldn't consider tenting it in a ground tent again. So it's not just you.

After sleeping in my mt. Rainier, I really can't see myself using my ground tent unless I was hiking into an area where I was going to camp.

Btw... It's Monday. Where's your trailer? I am very interested in seeing how it turned out with paint.

I know I'll ground camp again but not anytime soon!

Well its tuesday now and still no trailer! I called today to get a update and they told me they sprayed the paint but the tub seemed to need a bit more body work so they are back at it and will be spraying primer tomorrow so I'm really expecting maybe Thursday or Friday. All I got to say it it better look ************!

Greg,
If you decide the RTT needs a new home, please let me know.

Just use some POR15 with all the proper steps & save yourself some $$$$ since you want to tear it down & redo everything

for getting the dents out, use shaping hammers & dollies, slightly heating some of the tough bends will help in the process

honestly I would leave the rims & tires as is unless you are doing some serious off roading & need it

That's a real bummer. I bet you are pretty pissed off right about now. Hopefully, they are doing a nice job for you!!

Wow man, that really sucks. Too long to wait for a trailer to get painted. They had better give you a sweet deal on it!

As a car guy, I have heard the term "paint jail" many times.

Ive never dealt with it since I do all my own painting. But from the other side of the coin, it sometimes goes like that. But sometimes its just a bad business owner.

Wish you the best!

WOW.... I was going to post up and ask how you liked the trailer. I figured that you were just really busy and didn't post about it. Good luck to you man.

I've been a painter, and I can sympathize with that side too. One time, I had to paint the same car 4 different times. It was just plain ole bad luck every single time. The first time was fish eyes. The second was a bad compressor that was blowing a bunch of oil in the lines. Then, I somehow mixed the wrong shade of paint and when I unmasked it, the trim and bumpers didn't even remotely match. So I do understand that things can go horribly wrong in a body shop.

On the other hand, it's a camping trailer that they promised back in short amount order, so I doubt that he was paying for a flawless restoration.

Josh, have they given you any sort of reasoning for the delays? Just curious.
