Decided to leave work "early" - had 8 hours in at 2:30 PM on Friday. So after careful consideration (about 10 seconds), I headed home the back way from Prescott Valley to Chino Valley via Hwy 89A and Smiley Rock Trail on Mingus Mountain.
The second photo is Stupid Rock. I flopped my trail beater while playing on it several years ago. I routinely crawled it from the same place my '98 is at, but on that occasion I tried it at the high point of the rock. It was funny until I realized I'd seperated my left shoulder on impact with the ground. I had the doors off the rig, so even tho it was a slow motion flop, the point of my shoulder was the first thing to hit. After painfully climbing out the passenger side hole, it took me about 2 hours to roll the truck back on it's wheels with a come-a-long and high lift jack used as a winch. I'd tied my arm into a sling, so everything was done one handed. Yahoo!
Even after a wee bit of rain this week it's really dry up there. Stock tanks are nearly empty, the dust is unreal, and the trees look pretty rough. Lots of dead standing timber on the hillsides. I'm glad the FS has Fire Restrictions in place, but I saw no posted notification at the trail head at Potato Patch CG.
