The only problem of the QX56 is that its nose is soooo ugly, wonder why the US doesn't get at least the Patrol version to at least not see that behemoth's nose .....

Just here...
Corporate design language. Thats all.

I really dont think this is such a big deal. We have never gotten the Patrol, as we know it today (although, I would love an original SWB with an SD33T...) so what are we missing? Toyota probably got the same guff when they went from the 80 to the 100 series in the States. Infiniti has offered a big SUV and this is going to replace it. What does it matter? No one would ever take this vehicle anywhere near uneven terrain and, more than likely, these are going to end up on 24" wheels with limo tint windows and chrome, stick on Pep Boys special vents. In countries where an off road vehicle is traditionally available and a ready market for it, the real Patrol will continue to be offered. In the States, where there has never really been a constant demand/ desire, outside of Jeep, we get stuff like this.

Just remember the abomination that it is replacing:

The new Patrol is designed for the Middle East market. Rumors for some time have been that this replaces all models of Patrols worldwide thus putting an end to the live axle legendary vehicle.

If you watch videos of the new Patrol being tested in the Middle East it does fairly well. Eats up the dunes no probs at all. Also eats up the washboard type roads. Lacks flex big time in the whoops. It is a pretty advanced vehicle with lots of new technology. For what it was made and designed for (the Middle East) I think it will do well. In the USA that pretty much fits the soccer mom, put it in 4wd to take it to the ski hill type of use. It also fits that market fairly well.

It is not what us "die-hards" want to see but we account for hardly any sales dollars for Nissan. Nothing new here in the automotive world, different year, different vehicle...same old story.

I am still importing a Y60 in 2012/13! :wings:

What a shame. It seems like a lot of legendary names are starting to go the way of the station wagon SUV these days.

That thing is ugly.

Mine is too (on the left) but it's built like a tank.

They sure don't make them like they used to.

The old one looks beautiful in comparison

This is an old thread. But I came to say that Patrols Y61's are still side-by-side with the new Y62. They canceled the TB45E (4.5L 6I) in all models (LWB, SWB, Pick-up) and made the TB48E (4.8L I6) as standard. There has been a Y61 4-door model with a 5.6L VK56DE V8 engine, 5-speed manual, standard options for about 19K OMR (about 49,100$).
