I figured I should take a few pictures with the top off the cab. I have had it off for a week and am putting it back right now. Got to love a ragtop though, quick and easy to go topless!

Got some things done today. What took the longest was de-greasing the engine. What I got done was;

-de-grease/clean & rebuilt fuel pump with NOS rebuild kit. I put in a few other parts not found in the rebuild kit too. New NOS fuel filter also installed.
-de-grease top on bottom of engine, not fun!
-drained engine oil and pulled oil pan. Cleaned up oil pan, sanded it and painted it with Rust Bullet. New oil filter installed.
-drain and fill all three diffs & t-case. All of it was relatively clean which I was happy to see.
-cleaned the air filter, it is like new but I blew it out anyways.

Pictures!

I should have took a "before" picture of this, it was absolutely a mess.

I installed new window channel on the LHS and the results are simply killer. No more window rattle! I am so happy with it I am ordering more and doing the RHS.

Oh man I love this thing...

It looks like it's the size of a city bus, til you stick your head out of the window, or park it next to a 'cruiser. Then it magically shrinks down to the size of my XJ, and looks like some sort of demented farm implement...

LOVE it.

I have a bunch more parts in route...

-new brake drum and shoes to finish off the front RHS brake rebuild.
-new dizzy cap, military
-new spark plugs & rotor
-new coil to dizzy wire
-new shocks at all six corners! I went with Doetsch from EI.
-new wiper motor, ouch!
-steering box rebuild kit.

After this there is not many things on my list the truck needs to be up to my standards. Some soft top repairs and hardware, the BN4 gas fired heater fixed and working and the e-brake fixed up is all that comes to mind right now.

Cheers

I made a deal on the truck recently so my time with the Warn Pinz is soon at an end. I have been doing a lot of work to the truck though and figured I would post it up here for anybody interested.

Once we had the axle in the shop tear down time began. Here you can see where the o-ring sits behind the axle wiper. Not totally wasted by corrosion but definitely enough there to cause problems.

All these parts I treated with aircraft stripper, prep for sand blasting. Makes things a lot easy to sand blast.

New & old e-brake parts

Working on the wheel drives while I do all this other stuff too....

Witches hat parts, new & old

main.php

All torn down and ready to rebuild.

main.php

The gear pressed on this shaft is locktighted. As per the manual, heat up to around 215f and it comes off easily. I just used a mapp gas torch and an infra red thermometer.

Here are some more pictures of work in progress.

This is the new ball cups. Obviously a change made by Steyr.

sand blasted e-brake stuff for the re-furbish I am doing on it.

Cleaned diff halves at mating surfaces.

main.php

main.php

A bit tricky to put the halves back together, seal them with a sealant, leave slightly cracked, install o-rings, grease and slide in grease wiper/seal + rubber stopper. I decided to not change out the ball cups since these are in good condition.

main.php

Yes I know, I am missing a few washers.

main.php

new seal and o-ring for the front flange.

main.php

I still need to clean the bottom half of the housing where it mates to the tube.

main.php

this went on very easy, tapped it on with my hand. Red locktight on the splines.

main.php

since the e-brake housing is alloy I painted it with some aluminum paint.

main.php

the tail cone re-freshed

more witches hat rebuild

main.php

I paid attention when I took this apart, it is tricky to get apart and back together. But if you do it right not to tough.

main.php

locktight on the splines and new snap rings.

main.php

It has to go in this order before putting into the housing, no other way to really do it. I found it easiest to put the big snap ring into the groove from the inside not the outside of the housing. I have big huge long snap ring pliers though.

main.php

all new o-rings, springs, ect.

main.php

rebuilt...

main.php

Just about ready to put the witches hat on the back of the diff and then start on the e-brake rebuild.

main.php

In my opinion, the best sealant you can get.

With the axle done it was time to start in on the wheel drives ~ portal boxes.

Wheel drive rebuild is in full effect. I just can't help myself, If it is old and filthy it needs to be re-newed!
