These binoculars rock! (Leupold Rogue 10X50)

Lynn, how are the 10x50 for holding?
Do they seem steady, or does everything move around to much?
I am still deciding between 10x50 or 8x42.

Also the ones I posted above may be refurbs from a few of the reviews I read, and made in China.

not lynn but I have a few ranges of binocs
the ten move around a lot more but are great at spotting things in the desert which is why I got them also being the desert many things are farther off :)

remember with 10 over 8 if anything the 10 are harder to find things you are looking at !!!! you have to be more used to looking through optics and knowing where to point if you want to say that :)

mine I can bring out at night their is enough light at night I can easily see into the mtns behind my house and watch the coyotes ! good optics more than numbers of course
my girl went out on a field trip with nature people and did this bird watching thing that she got into I gave her mine but they are to strong want to get her some 8s she can call her own in that under $150 range
I would get her 6-8 for sure only reason I have 10 as I like them I shoot a lot and am good at being steady also being a photographer I tend to know how to steady myself a lot so that helps and again got them to see animals and such in the desert and just to have them

I also love marine binocs 7x50 great brightness nice open feeling to look through and 7 or 8 are close
me I would go with 8 unless you really know you want 10 and have other binocs !!!! and I would only go with 10s as a second pair or you want to watch critters etc.. where the small bit will come in handy :)

I would also say go to a good place that has lots of binocs to try out ! see if you can walk out and hope they have a view of something farther away
look through a bunch and go up to the $500 pairs and make a few notes come back at dusk and then check them out again if you plan on using them at dusk ever or very dark days :) like Seattle winters dark and rainy at 3pm !

I think it would really make you realize where and what you get as you step up and with the money you spend on things I can say stepping up to those $400 and up models really makes a big difference and they last for ever and can say you tend to use them more etc..

you can also buy off amazon be happy and sure the nikon are great but again its interesting when comparing what you end up liking ! thats how I got mine I went in planning on getting something totally dif and walked out with the ones I have and was amazed at how much more I liked them vs what I planned on buying !

Thanks Honu for the info.

Not to many places around here to check them out, so I ordered the 8x42 Nikons from Amazon just now.
They will show up tomorrow, and hopefully with the nice weather we are getting this weekend, I can try them out day and night.

I also could not find any support that these are refurbished units according to two of the reviewers who both used caps in their reviews, so it may or may not be true.
Most of the reviewers liked the Nikons.

I'm a big fan of high quality optics. If I could ruck the Hubble on my back I would. I justified the purchases on the fact that I'll be able to hand these down to my kids.

On a joint NV bull elk and mule deer hunt. Out of the four of us in our group, two record book mule deer, one record book bull elk were harvested, along with one order of "Tag soup."

And returning home from the two week hunt. I can't wait to hunt with this one...

My hunting partner carries a small pair of Nikon's around. I'm constantly amazed at them and I know he didn't spend a lot on them. I bet he has used them for six years or so and they still impress me. Another brand that I have been impressed with is Vortex. I first fondled them at the Safari Club International show and later was able to demo a pair for a little while. I had no problem recommending them to a friend's wife when she asked about a reasonably priced pair of bino's for her husband.

Anyone ever see a NV Moose? Neither had we. Picture taken by holding the camera up to the spotting scope.
