Hey guys,

I have a 2001 jeep cherokee 145000 miles, 4.5" lift brand new, 32" BF AT's. Its really nice, rides likes a jeep and have had it since it was new.
I think its just time for something new nothing wrong with jeep. Maybe I want a smoother ride. So im torn between a Tacoma, FJ or V8 4 runner all 4x4 of course. Prolly put a 3" lift at some point. Use: daily driver, but weekend offroading, camping etc. I really like the Jeep wrangler 4 door but so underpowered and ride rough.
Any info on any of these rides would be appreciated.

Not sure what your needs are and if you might need the hauling space of a truck, but I've had several Toyota's (4runner, FJ-40, Tacoma) and hands down the 4.7 V8 4Runner with 4wd has been my favorite. It combines a solid drive train with V8 power, superb comfort and Toyota reliability is always a huge plus to me. The 4.7 averages 21 mpg on the open road with cargo on the racks and I average right about 17.5/18mpg around town.

just my 2 cents!

Coming from an XJ, probably a 4runner. I need a pickup, but if not that's probably what I'd want, or a Land Cruiser. Besides, my mom has one and I love driving it. :sombrero:

They all have pretty equal aftermarket support, but maybe a tinge more for the FJs. I personally love the look of the 09 4runners.

I was thinking the 4 runner would definitly be the most comfortable. I dont necessarly need a truck but I have a big labrador and would put a camper on the back for him. So no one really diggin the FJ's?
How are the 4runners for offroading

I think about the same as the Tacoma or FJ. You can get em with a locker in the rear like the others. They're all pretty similar set ups. Maybe someone who has more experience with them can chime in. I've rode in a few FJs and test drove one once, I personally don't like the visibility. I feel like the Taco and 4runner are pretty similar (in that you can see well out of both).

FJs are great on road, off road, and for camping :D
If I had to do it all over again, and FJ Cruiser for sure.

I like the utilitarian interior in them.
No leather and no carpet.

I have an older Tacoma and a FJC. Gas mileage isn't too good in the FJC, but I agree with Corey. It's a great on and off road vehicle.

And just in case you think there is no room in the FJC for camping gear, I take a lot camping.
To much :D

And that is only part of the stuff.
There is more up front and off to the side :D

I had a custom show horn made to cram it all in nice and tight.

I average 17 MPG city/freeway with the OME lift, winch, ARB bumper, 33" mud tires, and the penthouse.
Biggest hit on these rigs is the mud tires.
I went down 2 MPG when I added the first set which were in the stock size.

I might try ATs next time, not sure.

I just traded in my 09 wrangler unlimited with the 3.8 and 6spd manual...had plenty of power!!...

but we got a 2010 tundra for a bigger truck and versatility/usefullness..

and a slide in camper...

go testdrive one with a manual tranny...its MUCH diffrent than my 08 2dr wrangler with an auto!!
