i wouldn't look to SSR's. they are super heavy, pricey and will wear fast. if looking at a swamper, look at the Trxus. i'm not sure where you are, but they are very good wet/snowy weather tire. best snow tire i've ran, and i've ran BFG AT's and this winter, the MT's. i got about 40k on 2 sets of trxus and still had some tread on both.

i went with BFG MT's this time around for a little more mileage, and i like the 33x10.5 size on 15's. i have to say, the difference in traction, or lack thereof, between these and trxus is amazing in snowy conditions.

ProComp Extreme AT

I have ProComp Extreme AT (31-10.5-15) on my F150 and I am very pleased with them. They have the most aggressive tread I could find in an all-terrain tire. There highway behavior has been very good, although I haven't driven in ice or snow with them. Surprisingly quiet. Only have about 6,000 miles but they show no wear yet. So far I highly recommend them.

simple as that :)

I ran a set of those Goodyear MT/R's to the bone. I got about 50,000 out of them. There was allot of lateral imbalance problems. But these where one of the first sets to hit the street when I bought them. I am sure they have fixed them by now.

They did not have very good road manners on damp pavement, but they did not chunk lugs like my current tires. Firestone Destination MT/R's

this is the determination i'm coming to.

i'm going to add a third contender, though: Hi-tech retreads.

I've run them on three rigs with nary a problem. Jp magazine ran them on a cj8 over the rubicon with great results.

great tires for the money, now especially that you can choose your tire carcass (i'd choose some bfg's with the trigard sidewall)

I'd go with the BFG T/A KOs if It were a DD. I've had several sets of those in different sizes and I've been pleased with them. They do well on the road, get good tread wear, grip nicely in snow, and still do fine off road. I beat the snot out of the set of 31"s I had on my Wrangler and they never let me down. If you're looking at Swampers, maybe you should consider the TSL Radials. Should last a little longer on the road than most other Swampers do.
