i ran pro comp xterrains 33x 10.50 for a couple of years with 8 oz of air soft pelletts in each tire,, smoooooth,,,,,,,,,,,when i pulled the tires off to go to 35's the pellets were in perfect condition , much cheaper than dyna beads

if your numbers keep jumping around, that sounds like the machine is out of calibration. A shop should be able to remove the tire and see how bad the wheel bent or out of round, also check the tire for any imperfections. our shops and training guide us to use dynamic vs static when possible.

As stated here, I'm not a fan of steel wheels because of weight & balancing issues.

'Static' balancing (which is still a machine 'spin' balance) usually using ‘tape weights', is often better/recommended for heavier LT tires, and it's often what I have done on my tires/wheels.

I recently had a new Toyo M55 in 255/85R16 want about 10-oz. in 'dynamic' mode, but 1.5-oz in static mode. We balanced the set 'static' and all was fine. When properly blanched to 'zero', static will use less weight than 'dynamic'.

Static is only balancing in one plane and dynamic is balancing in two. A good tire guy will tell you that ‘dynamic' is the best balance but will also tell you that adding ‘unneeded' weight to a tire/wheel combo is NOT a good idea. So if your tires are calling for lots of weight try balancing them in static mode to keep the weight down while still accomplishing a good balance.

The tires need to be balanced staticly basicly wear they use a sticky weight on the middle inside the wheel

ok... the numbers must have been for dynamic then, because it wantd inside edge and outside edge weights.

the numbers never change... ever....the wheel is only bent if it came that way, i have never bashed it against anything.

the weight just seemed high to me, and i was wondering about other options

It seems your thinking to much about this, just go to another shop and have them put whatever weights they need on and go. For such a small tire you don't need anything fancy unless you like to spend extra money? Those numbers did seem a little high, but GoodYears don't balance for ****, at least no set I ever owned did. Big out of balance tires like swampers need the stuff you put inside the tires to get them half way decent....

I have a set of 33x12.5r15 GY MT/R's that required alot of weight, but they are smooth as glass even up to 70mph... And on the other hand I have a set of 37x13.50r17 Toyo MT's on H2 rims, 2 wheels have no weights and the other 2 have something like 3 oz and i've run that up to 70 with no problems.

For the 2 guys that asked me about the beads.. I'm a bum and spent the weekend:
1.) sleeping (it was good)
2.) setting up the 4.88s in my 8.8

Will attempt to remember to check my box of stuff tonight.

Sounds good.

FWIW: I just picked up a set of Interco Swamper TSL's, in 33x13.5-15.

4 came already mounted, so I threw them on the XJ.

The vibes were really bad. Knowing these tires/wheels had seen more rock crawling than highway time, I set up my dial indicator and did a run out test on the wheels.

I had to go up to the outer part of the 'center', becuase of the rock rash on the edge of the wheel:snorkel:

3 of the 4 wheels were bent, one really bad.

I swapped out 2 so far, with the set of steel wheels that were on my XJ, and lost a lot of the vibes.

While apart, I also weighed the two differebt style wheels.

Both are 15's at 8" wide, same lug pattern, and same back spacing.

The one's that were bent, weighed 18 pounds each, the ones from my XJ, were 30 pounds each!:Wow1:

So, I have 2 more wheels to swap out, get all 4 balanced, and hope Alosix has some spare bags of beads after 'Muddyluxury' gets what he needs.:coffeedrink:

At least with the new wheels, my XJ doesn't feel like a 'Shiatzu Message Chair' anymore!:hehe:
