Tire size for 2000 Montero

I know I should do a little more searching, but I was wondering if any could tell me what is the largest size of tire I can get on a stock 2000 Montero? I would like to add a new suspension, but the tires are gone and I need to do this first. Come summer I will be putting on about a 1.5-2 lift so I wanted to max out the size now since I can't afford tires and suspension at the same time.

I run 35's w/ no problems on my 2.5gen.
2' body lift and torsion twist upfront.

I have the BFG 33x10.5x15 on my 2000 Montero with all stock suspension and no adjustments.

FWIW, a 2" body lift is only $125 which is far cheaper than a single 33" tire and can be installed in 1-2hrs.

What kind of off roaming do you want to do? Basic overlanding? Technical trail riding? Rock crawling?

Overlanding primarily.

Then 32-33" dia is probably fine. 35's look cool but are $$ and harder on your drivetrain.

...not to mention the effect that they have on the poor Monty's already anemic performance....

I'm fine with my Montero's performance. Even my old 4 door v6 with 33x12's could do 100mph+ on the highway.
