To Rover or not to Rover... LR3 purchase consideration...

Hey Nik,

Good Luck with the truck. Check on the rear brake replacement. Learned that de-lamination of the "e-brake/parking brake" pad is an issue on earlier LR3s - I personally experienced this one. Also, the previously mentioned differential issue.

However, I love my LR3 and I've put over 30K on an '05 LR3 with no major issues. There is currently something that is trowing the dealer a curve... Whining noise either coming from t'fer case or tranny...

but I'm either keeping it or replacing with another LR3! Again best of luck.

interesting bit though.

most of us buy phones,pc parts and what not, sight unseen on the bay or such.

but a vehicle, and not thousand dollar range? it takes a decent size pair :D

I bought both my LR3 and 90 unseen, neither have had issues. Both came from a place with a solid rep. So Nikson, no worries.

We just bought a an LR3 2007 sight unseen from Chicago. Got a great deal. When the car showed up the Electronic Parking Break System was F'D (1,800 to fix). Likely from sitting on a truck locked for 4 days or because it sucks. Anyway the dealer paid to have it fixed.

Here are the known issues... According to my mechanic

Electronic Parking Break System
Bushings (Primarily Front)
Weak Battery= Fault Codes
Air Ride Compressor

(I also had some fault codes pop up. I replaced the Brake Switch Sensor and a faulty rear brake buld and the fault codes cleared. Both have been known to result in faults).

Still love the vehicle.

In case any of you with an LR3 have a locking brake malfunction- please note:
If you carry a tool in your glove box that looks like a screw driver with a hook on the end, ... you can pop off the narrow rubber change pocket to the right of the gear shifter. If you look down inside of that, you'll see a metal aircraft cable with a loop on the end (that most times is painted red). If you take that hook and attach it too the loop and pull hard, the truck will make a loud pop, and the ebrake will release which will at least allow you to get where you need to go and avoid a tow. As long as you don't set the brake again, you will be fine until you get it fixed. We actually had this issue on an 08 in the past but it only did it twice in the two years we owned the truck, so I never worried with having it fixed. Just popped it lose myself.

Just and FYI public service announcement.

Thanks
Dendy

You should do some pictures and more detailed step by step type write-up...

Sure lots of folks would appreciate...

Have you bought anything yet?

Yes,

I've found & purchased a 2005 HSE with almost 75k miles in S.California for a much reasonable price (that I thought so at least).

It has everything one would like, other than the entertainment center & wood trim (neither are of any importance to my family or myself)

HD & factory packages were part of the build sheet, along with few other goodies, which I liked very much.

I wont go into all of the detail, but overall I'm a happy "camper"., along with a wife who liked it very much.

I'll get some good weather here in Oregon and do a nice picture/video review on it when I get a chance (Oregon weather).

Got my IIDTool in the mail as well, was able to play with it a bit before I threw into the glove box,
had to clear some minor fault codes, mainly communication stuff, nothing serious.

Also purchased a set of 18in. wheels, and will be putting some "off-road" friendly tires on it,
Current options are to stay with factory size and go with the Toyo ATII, or go to 31,5in. with BFG A/T

As far as tires go take a look at the Falken AT. I went 265/65 with a little lift and have almost no rubbing. I've had the tires in every scenario you can imagine and they have performed flawlessly. The price is also outstanding.

Will look into those as well...

My problem is that the set of wheel that I've got, came with a practically new BFG tire, so it will be a lot cheaper to go with 4 of BFGs most likely anyway for me...
