Getting down to it. Our shortlist has devolved to just the Outback 3.6R and the 4Runner Trail. Wife wants the truck and I wouldn't complain (at all), but the Outback is much cheaper over the life and can certainly handle what we will use it for. We shall see, we shall see...

Went with a check, but left empty handed.

Nice! I love the new T4Rs, but similar to you, Outback fit the bill for our needs just as well and for significantly less money. We were able to get a brand new '14 2.5i base with a bunch of dealer installed upgrades at our request for less than $24k. Hard to beat that. I like the Foresters, they're just too cramped for our liking for an extended camping trip with a 45lb dog and 1-2 kids. I've loved the OB since day 1, but I like it more and more every time I drive it.
