All the talk back and forth on this forum about tongue strength.... here it is so simple yet very strong. Triangulation at it's best.

Sorry for slow progress

I’ve been out of town for work… I will be for another few weeks, then it’s going to be FAST moving. First purchase will be the RTT. Money is always an issue.

I think I’m going with a hinge system to lean the tent over while closed, open the doors and then lean it back over.

Leaning towards the Tepui Kukenam ($825)

Power is going to come from Goal Zero Extreme 350 Kit (found it significantly cheaper). I really like this stuff because of the simplicity of the setup and versatility of use other than just on the trailer. I had initial planned to build a 12v system, but I think I’ve talked myself out of it.

Hot water from Eccotemp L5 Portable Tankless Water Heater and Outdoor Shower

I’ll need a small pump for this.

The build will evolve based on feedback from folks on Expedition Portal and how things fit/work.

Need to get:

1. Small propane tank to hook up to my camp chef stove
2. Looking for creative options to carry 10-20 Gallons of water

At the moment I’m doing tons of research, in a few weeks I should start making some serious progress. I appreciate any advice you guys can provide.

Cool trailer, color matched is a plus, Matching wheels on the list too?
I like the list of extras you chose.
Keep us posted.

Shower Build and Power Choice

I'm still in the "purchase things" phase as I'm not able to work on this trailer yet. I'm hoping to stock up on some parts and work on this thing full speed in a few weeks!

Parts I ordered:

Eccotemp L5 Portable Tankless Water Heater and Outdoor Shower

SHURflo 2088-422-444 2.8 Classic Series Potable Water Pump

I'm still working out the power for the trailer...

I'm torn between building my own solar charged 12v system specifically for the trailer (cost about $300 and would have 60w solar panel with a 100ah battery) that would be more flexible but labor intensive

or

Goal Zero Ranger 350 kit (can get for about $380, only has 33ah battery and 30w solar panel) VERY quick and easy/user friendly, but don't think it's got enough juice

Biggest part of this is going to be building the frame to get the RTT out of the way of the doors as they open.

Ordered Tent!

Just ordered the Tepui Autana tent! STOKED to get this thing on the trailer.

Pictures are not of my trailer or my tent (believe tent picture is of a member here on expeiditionportal.com)

So now, need to design a rack for the trailer to allow the doors to open and the tent to stay low while not in use.

Thoughts?

Tepui RTT Attached

Today I worked with a buddy and decided how to attach the RTT. Instead of making a frame over the trailer we are basically just going to make an internal subframe for the tent to sit on when the back door is open.

Today we adjusted the mounting channels for the tent and welded some feet on the existing arms of the trailer for use during travel.

Electrical work started

I'm starting on my electrical work! I'm not an expert at this stuff, so this site has been very helpful. I'm also learning through some serious trial and error.

So the last few days I've installed 4 12v blue sea plugs on each end of the trailer and wired them to a blue sea fuse box (all great stuff). The good news is the outlets work! Now I need to clean up the wiring, permanently mount the battery and start working the solar.

Callistoga CA Trip

First real "outing" for the trailer. This is definitely a work in progress, but we are setup with power, cooking and a fridge.

First "Real" Outing

Took the trailer out for a 2 day trip into Tahoe National Forest. Really didn't get a chance to take any photos of it on the trail. I took this one of our circus on the first night of camping.

Need to get shower setup ASAP, it would have really added to the trip. Electrical worked very well and supported fridge all weekend without any problems. The Tepui tent is performing well also.
