The trip started as we left All-Pro headquarters around 6:30pm friday evening to meet with everyone in the Bass Pro Shops parking lot. We met everyone for a brief moment and started the convoy to the ghost town of Ballarat, CA. We had 9 trucks total for this weekends run.

We got into Ballarat about 11:30pm and set up camp. Most of us were exhausted from the drive and caught some shut eye before the long day ahead of us. Here was our camp the morning after before we got on the trail.

We were all quite anxious to get on the trail in the morning and see the beauty of Death Valley. There was a local store that has been around since the 1800’s that we all decided to check out before getting underway with the run. One of the buildings still standing in Ballarat was the Jail/Morgue and if Vacant even a Motel!

The beginning of the trail was quite moderate but climbed in elevation pretty fast. Some of the views were incredible!

As we made our way higher the trail went through a canyon and spit us out at the infamous “Chicken Rock” part of the trail which has already had 3 rollovers this year!

After the “Chicken Rock” Section we made our climb to the highest point of the trail, Rodgers Pass, which was about 7600ft. Absolutely gorgeous!

As the trail came to an end we all met together to say our goodbyes at the general store in Ballarat. No one wanted the weekend to end! In all it was great to meet new people, see some familiar faces, and have an all around great weekend with great people! We can’t wait for our next trip and hope to see some more people come along!

Enjoy! :sombrero:

Great report and fantastic pictures. Quick question(s): Would Chicken Rock be a problem for a full size p/u? And...do you ever include vehicles other than Toyotas? :sombrero:

Full Size truck is possible

We went through the opposite way the same weekend and met these guys at Chicken Rock. We were in a 96 Landcruiser but shortly after we went down Chicken Rock a group of guys we ran into earlier came down in 8 vehicles. There were 3 full size trucks in the group. A chevy full size crew cab duramax, a toyota tundra crew max and a Ford F150 crew cab. All 4wd but stock. They just took a little longer through the tight stuff. Below chicked rock they probably bottomed and hard on the steps as it was tough not to on the shorter wheelbase Land Cruiser. They most definitely have some serious pinstriping also from the brush in pleasant canyon and upper south park canyon.

Such a small world. We were out there too, only on foot. Hiking up Surprise Cyn to Panamint City. I think another smaller group was out there too with an 80 series. Cool shots, and yeah i've heard an h1 humvee has actually made it's way through chicken rock. Most people make the mistake of over compensating for the cliff and go off the side when they bump to the opposite uphill side to much. In fact, someone just went off that a couple weeks ago, yet again.

I wanted to go on this... perfect time of the year to do it, and it's right up the street from Las Vegas... but I just couldn't get an answer if the trail you were taking was friendly enough for a stock suspension FJ... so I wound up not going :(

The pics look like it was stock-friendly though... so now I'm grrrrr

Eh.. guess I'll see ya next year
