I really need your guys input on this one.

I have reservations of redoing the tongue. I don't know why, I just want to do the least amount of welding on it. Anyway here's my idea......

I can run a 30" 2 1/2" .250 wall off the oem stub(pic above) plus I can weld a 2" .250 wall to the stub inside. Than 1/4" plate using the oem bolts on the landing gear. Do you think this would be strong enough? I don't think I would exceed 500lbs.

Sure go for it...

Consider drilling a 5/8" hole in the 2 1/2" and weld the inside of the hole to stub.

Can do the same thing on again on receiver end of the 2 1/2" to weld the inside of the hole to the 2" stock.

Well a buddy and me went ahead and redid the whole tongue. I still have to mount the box and rewire it for a 7pin. I'm waiting for the tires and wheels to come in so I can get meassurements for the axle.

Thanks guys

It was really my buddy Josh that helped me get to this point. Otherwise I would still be undecided for weeks. What would we do in life without our buddies.

The landing gear that I picked up at tractor supply is to short. So I'll have to find a much longer one somewhere.

I will be doing a similar mod to my lifetime tent trailer. My tongue is very short and does not leave room for any gear. Looks good!

Well, solves that problem! :)

When you get to the wiring in your tongue box, take lots of pics and let us know how you wire things up. I've got similar plans, plus I'm hoping to squeeze a water pump in their too. Need all the ideas I can get!

You had to bring this up. I have been going through the trailer builds here looking for ideas for mounting 5gal jugs. I have been ignoring the power setup on purpose. I'm not very neat at wiring. I have two optimas and mounts waiting for me at http://www.gotshocker.com/home.php. I also want to put a WP in there, plus a 2nd inverter. I have a really old one in the jeep already. All in do time I guess.

I'm also thinking of a hard top now. Just for better security.

I made a little progress on it, but between work and 4x4 trips, its slow goin. I'm still waiting on the wheels and tires to get meassurements for the axle, and the batteries. I still need to do more research on a switch/power panel. I have a Surflow pump and a round 30 gal tank that I could bring on the longer trips(that I haven't ever taken, yet!). Also need to research trailer LED lighting for lighting up camp.

Something I seen yesterday while I was out getting muddy.

I'm pretty sure I've decided to run the cord down the top. I have leftover ABS plastic I may install on top of the tongue to collect dirt/mud samples

Had to do a quick fix on this

Anybody know where to find canvas chain covers? PO did this. It's a water bowl.

What do you guys think of mounting MWC/MFC here? I could build horizontal mounts for the front, just in front of the tire.

Has anyone seen a better way to close the tailgate?

I think I need a bigger truck!
Hey Man,
Very cool snow tractor there...I have not seen one like that before? As far as the wiring goes, if you need any help, let me know, I am pretty good at the actual wiring and keeping it clean. I am also doing much of the same that you are, so it will/could look a lot the same.

I would consider mounting the gas cans on the side of the trailer, the sides of the tongue box put them in a vulnerable spot. They will get pinched if you have to jackknife the trailer, and will get pounded by rocks on the trails. One sharp rock, you might get a hole? Might be ok... really up to you?

As far as closing the tail gate, there are TONS of great latches and clasps on the McMaster Carr site as well as a few others. I like the De Sta Co latches, simple, well made, plated and they just work. Lots of styles and options that would work for a gate.

Cheers'

I'm putting rifle bolts or sliding bolts on the inside of mine. With the lid locked, you can't open the tailgate.

Haven't done much really. I've been working on the Jeep, especially since I've been wheeling it three weekends in a row. Also the factory trailer plug doesn't work. So I'm checking the entire harness front to back.
