Trailer stuff at SEMA

Here's a roof-top tent and an awning I saw at SEMA. The tent comes in several lengths up to about 10.5' long (the one pictured is the longest one). There's an available entry/changing room for it (see the photo I snapped from their brochure below). I like the way the entry to the tent is inside the changing room so it's protected from the elements and from view.

What's the company? With all due respect, you don't show at SEMA unless you want exposure.

Here's a new product I found at SEMA that I think could be very interesting as a trailer accessory - it's a "bed bag" designed for use in pickup trucks, but it's a perfect size to fit in a Dinoot Extended Jeep-tub trailer. It's made of heavy-duty polyethylene "tarp material" and it's got a zipper around three sides of the top corner. It's very affordable (M.S.R.P. way under $100), and it folds up very small.

They gave me a sample to test in my trailers. It's small enough that it'll fit in my carry-on bag when folded up, even though when fully open it's 5.5' long, almost 4' wide and over 2' tall.

I'll try it in the Dinoot extended and in the military trailer. Even though the width of the military trailer at the floor is 41", due to the flexibility of the bag I think it'll probably work in there too. I'll post photos when I get home and try it.

I came across a line of products at SEMA that could have lots of uses in camp trailers. The line is called the Quickfist (http://www.endroad.com/), it's a heavy-duty rubber clamping system. It's not a new line of products, in fact I saw them at last year's SEMA show, but I was focused on other projects at the time so I didn't pay much attention to them then. The company was demonstrating a whole bunch of uses for it in their booth, including a Hi-Lift. I snagged this shot from their brochure because the location of the Hi-Lift in their booth made it hard for me to get a photo of it:

One of my current background projects is a Jeep tailgate-mounted Hi-Lift carrier. I've done a first prototype (pictured below), and since building that one I've made some design improvements but I've been too busy to build a new prototype lately. I think I'll include the Quickfist in the next prototype of my Hi-Lift carrier.

I spoke to the company about the design I'm working on and they gave me two samples to use for my prototype:

They also have a strap version that they were demonstrating holding jerry cans, air tanks and fire extinguishers:

Both versions are surprisingly snug and seem quite strong, I think they could have a lot of applications in Jeeps and camp trailers.

Quickfists are awesome! I use them on my Jeep to hold my Axe and Shovel.

Is this the same product ?http://www.tufftruckbag.com/

I was searching for the bed bag and found this product. It looks different, for instance the corner attachments

No, different product and different company. The TuffTruckBag sells for $149.95, the new one I found at SEMA has an MSRP of about half that. Also the TuffTruckBag is much smaller, it's 40" wide x 50" long x 22" tall, and the one at SEMA is 5'5" long (over a foot longer), 4.9' wide (17" wider) and 2.25' tall (about 6" taller).

I've tested the bed bag from SEMA in a bunch of different trailers and I'm really impressed with the value it offers for the price. It's a great fit in an M416/M100 military trailer, here it is in my fiberglass replica:

A few other ways to protect cargo from the elements just for comparison...

A snap-on tonneau cover, about $300:

A fiberglass hinged hard cover:

More bed bag photos to come...

Here's the bed bag in a couple of Jeep-tub trailers.

This first trailer is 7' 5" long, it's made from the back of two Jeep tubs (a 2006 Wrangler unlimited and an 1989 YJ Wrangler):

And this is a Dinoot Extended fiberglass Jeep-tub trailer kit on my workshop floor. This one is 6' 6" long:

I know this post if off topic for this thread because it's not about a trailer, but I tried the bed bag in my Retro Wrangler pickup too, it's a great fit there...

Well all I can find made by BedBags is a disposable sold @ Kmart. I'd like one of these when and if you are able to share the souce.

"Bed bag" is just a generic term I'm using to describe it for now, it isn't the product or company name.

I should be able to name the source within a week or two.

I'm a little confused here. Isn't SEMA used to show what may be coming out on the market as a type of sneak peak or just to see if a product has enough interest to actually produce it? Why all the hush hush about the brand of the product?

SEMA is an industry-only trade show where new products are often shown before their public launch. Sometimes companies use SEMA to gauge interest from the industry, for example in the case of off-road products, a company might show a potential product at SEMA to see if off-road shops/retailers are interested in carrying the product. Sometimes companies use SEMA as the event at which they'll make a public launch because the press and industry is all there. In the case of this bed bag product, the company hasn't made a public announcement yet, although they did tell me that they have already done their first production run, so this isn't a "what if", this is a product that will be announced to the public soon. The may not want to announce it formally until they're ready to take orders or even take customer inquiries, or they may not want to announce it formally until they've got their distributors/retailers all arranged, I didn't ask for details on their announcement plans. The people at this company seem like really good people and I don't want to abuse the privilege of seeing their pre-release product at SEMA by announcing the details for them, that's for them to do when they are ready, which they tell me will be soon.
