We ran air jacks on our trophy truck and used a clipable limit straps to get the tire off the ground.

This is not my idea/design it came from engineers at Mopar.

What did you think? Did it work in the field?

I can't speak for Phil's experience, but the air jacks on various off road racing vehicles generally have worked very well as long as the suspension is strapped (as Phil mentions) so the tires don't droop further than the travel of the jack. Kuster was the first one to offer them in the off road racing world. I first saw one in action on Walker Evans' Class 8 Dodge in 1989 at the Parker 400. I was amazed when I saw it actuated. Walker activated a valve behind his seat and the whole side of the truck lifted up!

The jack didnt use near as much as the impact. The system was great (would lift the whole side of the truck) in the correct conditions (2' air jack) but still carried the normal stuff as back up.
