TreeHugger's 99 WJ...intro

DW update, MTO replaced the Drag Link Ends and found that 1 front tire was out of balance by about 1.5 ounces (this is 1 week after a balance and rotation at Discount Tire).

I had surgery on my back last week so I haven't had her out on the highway yet to try to induce more DW, slash give her a good high-speed test drive.

Once I get to feeling better I'll head down I-25 at 75 mph and see how she does.

SWEET! Another WJ! Cheers!

Welcome to ExPo!

Yeah...I went through a lot of things to cure my DW...I was also convinced it was incurable....

Wheel balancing...alignment...steering stablizer....ball joints...tie rod.....ugh. What you will find on here are a lot of people who are very knowledgable and are happy to post some very good advice for anyone in need.

I agree with that statement completely. I've also noticed that members here are usually very objective and willing to appreciate all opinions. I'm not implying that age is the only factor, but I bet the average age of this group is 5-10 year older than most off-road forums.

Yep...seems like lots of high-school and college kids on those forums. I'm 31 and feel that I may be younger than most on this forum.

Well, got her out on the highway today and got the shimmies at around 55 mph with the 1st bump I hit. Back to the drawing board. Seems to only be when the right side is rattled that it shimmies into a full blown DW. I'm gonna try another shop (Fort Collins 4x4) and see what they can find. It won't be long before I have to find a second job to pay for Death Wobble related expenses. This Jeep is killing me!

As of right now caster is at 7 degrees and toe is in 1/8"...still no luck. The shop has it right now and says that one of the front shocks is extremely stiff, while the other operates as normal. They are MX-6's and both adj knobs are seized. So...we'll try some new shocks and go from there.

EDIT: Shocks didn't help, they're gonna keep searching.
