Tucson to Sacramento on a WR250R

An Expedition of epic proportions..... is not what this trip is going to be...heck, its not even a trip that I have thought much about. Its mostly a favor for my buddy. Last time he was out west he tailed along with me for a week on my 6 week journey away from responsibilities. Anyway, he left his truck and trailer in Sacramento so he could fly home to Md from there instead of driving all the way to Tucson. So, instead of him flying to Sacramento and driving back here in Nov, I will go up there, pick it up, put the bike in the trailer and drive back home. The cool thing is, he's going to pay for the trip so that makes it nice. I will be saving him a month of storage unit fees so it will wash out. Anyway, plan on leaving in the morning. Would like to make it around Palm Springs, Ca for the first night but doesn't really matter. I'll stop when I feel its time to stop. Palm Springs is 385 miles from Tucson. The whole trip is just shy of 900 miles though I doubt I will take the most direct route.

I just cut out this piece of plastic to better hold my duffle bag. I can't recall the name of the plastic but its the same kind of stuff that the Arctic Cat ATV's use for a skidplate. I bought a sheet of it. So, I secured it with 10 zip ties and then tied off 4 loops made of 550 cord. I knotted each end of the 550 cord under the plastic. I'm bringing spare zip ties and some extra 550 cord just in case but I don't expect any problems because its just going to be highway riding. The straps are ROK straps and they work very nicely. Much better (and safer) than bungy cords. I don't have any bungy cord stories but those that have, know who they are.http://

For those of you who roll your eyes at such a "small" bike" here is a pic from a 6 day trip from Md to the backwoods of WV. As a matter of fact, I sold my V-Strom after this trip because the WR proved to be so capable...and comfortable as strange as that sounds. Besides, what would I do here if I had the V-Strom....(Those pesky gates.....)http://

I think I'd take US93 northwest from Phoenix, then US95 northwest from Kingman through Las Vegas to Beatty NV. Then west on CA 190 through Death Valley to Lone Pine, and north on US395 through Bishop up to Lee Vining. Then you choose CA120 through Yosemite, CA108 to Sonora, or CA88 to Jackson. Then north on CA49 and CA16 to Sacramento. The Sierra Nevada is beautiful this time of year.

Oh yes, very familiar with that route. Took it just over a year ago and have been through Beaty a couple times in the last 3 months. Just east of Palm Springs now. Put on 440 miles today. Didn't go the most direct route. Passed through Ajo, Az on Hwy 85 and north through Gila Bend and on to I-10. Have some pictures but nothing exciting.

So, here is the morning of the trip. This would be the last healthy meal until I get home. Eating out every meal gets old and expensive fast. The Aussie Biltes are very good also and can be bought at Costco. I took them along with me so I can snack every now and again so I don't end up wanting some supersized meal at a fast food joint. Ideally it would be handy to have a tank bag and keep a few of these in a container so I can eat one as I'm riding and washing it down with water from my Camal Bak. I have a magnetic tank bag but they won't work on the WR...too much plastic. Need one that has straps.
