Tundra with 4 Low not working, need help

The time mine wouldn't engage in 4W LO I was at Windrock as well......mine ended up being a cracked low range gear in the t-case.......then there was the broken front pinion shaft, pretzeled rear drive shaft, broken mirror, crushed fender.....I'm pretty sure Windrock hates Tundras

I think in your situation, the trail you were on was probably a bit more on the double black diamond rating to have that much damage.

Bamagirl, I had the same issue with 4Lo. Multiple times, I disassembled the actuator and greased up the contact points and internal moving parts. The actuators are definitely not the best working system. Which is why I swapped it out for a manual transfer case. No more push button for me.

I know all too well how rough Windrock can be on things... I have ridden atvs and sxs's there for the past 10 years and it is rough on machines.... I only did trail 2 in the Tundra and I was uptight and holding my breath the whole time.... I don't think I am cut out for the big leagues with the Tundra.
I sold my Rzr last week and now I am out of the sxs off-road hobby, I didn't feel near as bad about taking it on the trails as I did my truck.

I am still able to engage the 4wd but only used the 4 high this past weekend while I was roaming East TN and NC. Granted there was really no need for it but I was trying to keep the spinning to a minimum on Parsons Branch Road. I have a little squeak or whiz sound coming from it and am beginning to wonder if it could possibly be the U joints in the drive shaft. I have had the trunk since it had 36,000 miles on it and after this weekend I think I am up to 223,000 miles and I have never replaced any U joints. It doesn't make a jerking sound like my dad's Chevy in the years he has had it, about 25 years, and the U joints have been replaced on it and it used to be my daily driver when I was a teenager and I had the drive shaft fall out coming home from work late one night so I have had experience with U joint issues in Chevys but not Toyotas.

I am very shocked at how well it has held up over all this time and the miles. I realize there is probably way more maintenance things that need to be done but I am just not able to do myself. So before yall tell me what all I have failed to do, just know I do what I know to take care of it and what I learn from research.

I refused to have push button shifting on my atvs because of fear of gears getting stuck. If it wasn't manual shift I didn't want it.

In any case, if it comes down to having to replace the actuator or xfer case, be sure to look for parts from a taco, 4-runner, FJ within the same years. A lot of the parts are interchangeable and will save you money. Compared to dealer prices.
