TwoTrack's 05 Tundra

As far as tires go, look at the goodyear duratracs, I have 285/75/16s on my 01 Tundra and I love them in the rain. Regarding the control arms, I would go camburg again in a heartbeat. They supposedly add additional caster into the geometry and while not adjustable can add like 2 inches of droop travel with the right coilovers. The Uniball joint does squeak but it just takes a little squirt of some lube and they are good to go again. I prefer the Uniball to the ball joint for strength reasons.

I had a buddy that lived there and his car or house was broken into every few months. It seemed excessive. That being said, I've never been there and there are always bad neighborhoods in every town.

Better get your spey cast down.
There are some neighborhoods where that doesn't surprise me a bit. Some are ok but they're all older homes and few have much land.

The more I really think about what we're going to use this truck for over the next 3-5 years, the more stock simplicity and reliability I want. This truck isn't going to get used on any trail rougher than a maintained fire road and more realistically will probably only see gravel driveways. It will see lots of daily commutes and highway road trips. Once I lower the front, I'm going to check out my alignment numbers with the stock UCA. If I can get a solid alignment I'll end up selling the LR arms.

As for tires I'm currently looking at the Michelin LTX M/S. I know, not very sexy, but they get very good reviews for wet traction and should perform well towing.

Defender%20LTX%20MS%203_zpslq90rq2h.jpg

I need this truck to comfortably get us to the campsite and trail heads, reliably drive long highway runs on road trips, and be able to tow and haul for home projects.

Something that rickashay has posted a few time is to build the truck based on the tire size you want to run. I think this makes a lot of sense. After seeing how capable Toyotech's Tundra is on 32's (I'll probably never push mine that hard), anything more for me is overkill and only makes the truck less efficient. If I need more clearance I know I can buy skids and an angle grinder will quickly increase my departure angle.

I would love to go larger in tire size but it's just more wear and tear on the vehicles suspension parts. Also the fact you would need to regear. I know a lot do without but I wouldn't be able to handle the lost of power. I will eventually find a set of factory 430 gears and give them a go. If they check out. I'll be adding an ARB to the rear and if power is gained more than I wanted than I'll see about 33s on my next tire change lol.

I have 285/75/16 duratracs and love them. They have got me everywhere I need to go. I have been able to keep up with a jk on 37's. I have regeared my truck to 4.30 and it is perfect. I'm going 2 mph slower than the speedo says. I got my front from an elocker 4 runner for $50 and picked up my rear 8.4 from a t-100 for $300. I then installed a Detroit and what a difference.

I think 33's on a truck with stock gears and not a ton of extra weight wouldn't be bad. If I did go to 33's they'd be 255's which are a little lighter than the 285's. I'm not sure yet, I have the TRD springs and keep coming close to ordering the 5100's.

It's not bad on flat highways but I see hill driving and mpg is a big hit without regearing. I also tow a RZR from time to time up steep hills.

Towing is my main concern. We're debating getting a SxS once we get to Washington. That and I'll have a nasty commute for a while. My dad runs the Michelin Defender LTX on his Dodge dually that tows regularly and hasn't had any issues. I primarily want them for there wet traction.

While you're tire shopping you should give the Bridgestone Dueler Revo2 a look. It's a mild all terrain that has great wet weather traction and they wear really well. Ive run them on my wife's Pilot the last couple years and they are smooth and quiet, ran them on the shop truck prior to that. The shop truck was a Chevy 2500 that was used as a DD and frequent tow rig, as well as regular mountain use and they performed flawlessly in that application as well. Pricing should be similar to the Michelins. One thing ive noticed with Michelin the last few years is that the casings tend to weather crack prematurely compaired to most other brands. YMMV but they're worth a look.

We made it back from Washington and while I think we were somewhat spoiled by the perfect weather while we were there, we now know 100% this is something we want to do. We were able to scout housing locations, I was able to get a feel for the job market, and we even had time for touristy things.

Luckily the flights had lots of this:

The first full day we were there I spent in Bellevue and Seattle talking with recruiters, the next day we did some local exploring, these are from the Granite Falls fish ladder.

The pictures don't do them justice for how truly massive they are. The temperature change alone is quite dramatic.

The next day my wife went up for a short flight in my parents plane. (I'm not very enthusiastic about flying.)

On our final day we went downtown and did a bunch of touristy things like visiting Pike's Place Market, ordering from the first Starbucks, and we also visited a local brewery.

All in all, it was a fabulous trip and we can't wait to be here full time. As of right now we're targeting the Lake Stevens/Snohomish area for housing.

Washington is great, absolutely I love it here. We moved from Arizona nearly a year and a half ago, just bought a house in Shoreline 3 in months ago. If it wasn't for family and friends, we'd never go back!
There is a lot less sun here that you may be used to, but I like it. I find it incredibly relaxing. When I go back to Arizona I feel like the sun is actively trying to kill me.
Ohh yeah, and some great breweries and AMAZING food!

We went to Old Stove, we'll definitely have to try out Pike's next time.

We can't wait. The weather was a huge question mark for us, but we get a lot of rain here and it downpours. I think less sun, more overcast, and lighter rain will be fine. It will be a compromise for always having views of mountains and not instantly sweating when you walk outside.

This weekend the 5100's and TRD coils are going on. I've decided to go ahead and install the LR UCA's. We will also be actively looking for a trailer next month, things are starting to come together.

Everything went on pretty smooth. The front suspension is now setup with Bilstein 5100's on middle perch with Tundra TRD coils (yy/yb). I installed the LR UCAs as well.

With the OME setup I was at 23.5" center hub to fender, with 5100's I'm at 22.5". So far I really like the ride, it also makes the 255/75r17's fit more proportionally to the truck.
