Chris,

I have been doing a bit of research on brake systems and components for a "non van" project and found that the multiple piston calipers are often not as good as having fewer, but larger pistons, with regard to stopping power, pedal feel, etc. I have the basics down, but when one gets into calculating swept area, pressures, effective piston areas, floating versus fixed calipers, etc., the maths can get a bit out of hand.

Here are some sites that I found helpful, should you desire to delve into brake system math:

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Brakes/ - if the mods rip the link out, just search "brake bible" and it will come up.

http://www.markwilliams.com/braketech.aspx - brake tech from Mark Williams Enterprises

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/jeep-hardcore-tech/851498-info-calipers.html

Good stuff, just need to find time to read it all! My un mathematical guess is that they'll be about the same as the RSC setup. I think larger diameter makes more sense for rotors but its just not feasible for a lot of guys.

Chris do you happen to know of a Reese (or equivalent) Class III/IV/V style hitch that is bolt on for the ambos? There's a hitch on mine now but I wouldnt trust it for too much more than a bike rack.

V7's axle is done! Stage 1 D60 with a SpynTec bearing kit & SSBC rotors & 8 piston calipers. Look forward to running this stuff as a new option for our kits.

What would you use for replacement pads on this; would they be available at parts stores, or would you have to order from SSBC?

I will be looking for the same thing in the near future...

Tom, get in touch with me before you get rid of what you have now. Since I won't be towing anything heavy, and mine will be more for a bike rack, possibly a portable winch, etc, I may be able to use it.

I don't. Have a Ford # that I use for the regular van chassis but nothing for the cutaways.

Progress is nice, have more pics in the AM but we're wide *** open as usual. The Ambo 6.0 is all back together and sounds great, will actually get out of its own way now! Waiting for springs and we have an axle to build before it gets torn down. The engine is basically brand new now and has the necessary upgrades to ensure a long life.

A pic I posted on FB of a customer rig in TX with our kit. I just can't stop looking at it!

V7 build has begun the 4x4 swap! I read in the Ford manual that the 15k service should include a complete tear down and Dana 60 installed. Just following the manufacturers recommendation......

We got the front end out, tranny converted to 4wd, t-case in, underside of body cleaned and undercoated, front hangers bolted up and upper shock mounts welded in.

Can't wait to see this one. Looks just like mine, for the time being!

I've been following the TX van on Instagram. He's somewhat local to me. Definitely jealous of that thing.
