US M101A1 and F350

Occasionally folks ask about US M101's so I thought I would show what one looks like behind an F350. A full size truck doesnt even know the trailer is back there, It matches up width wise an tracks the truck nicely.
Fully loaded the trailer weighs in at 2780lbs with a 280lb tongue weight if my memory is correct.
I would not want to pull this trailer with my FZJ80 due to the size more than the weight issues.

Looks just about right behind a truck like that. Any idea how much if any weight could be cut off without majorly altering the trailer?

2780 is the max loaded weight per the data plate.
Empty weight is 1280.
You really couldnt remove any weight without altering the trailer.

Thats a M-105 (1.5 ton) which you really dont want to tow. Its very heavy, mostly used with 2.5 ton trucks. They are, however, very inexpensive, because nobody wants them.

The M-101 is a 3/4 ton trailer, so like he mentioned, 1500 pounds is about it. You can replace the springs to increase payload somewhat, however, the knee-bone is connected to the shin-bone. You then start pushing the design load in the other components. I have run the 101 up to 5000# gross but its not good. I generally prefer a on-road max of 1.4-1.6 ton (payload).
