Join me at my blog as I get to literally drive my 4Runner down the runways of Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego. I parked right alongside the planes of now and of the past that have so readily answered the Navy's call to duty.

It was an airshow unlike any other that I've been to. Join me at my blog for a short story and lots of pictures of great aircraft.

We went down as well. After sitting in traffic for about an hour at the 163/5 junction, we jumped out of line and came in from the south on the strand without any issue at all. Like you, finally seeing the Osprey was a highlight.

Victorvillle is quite a long haul! One of the MPs (Martin) that hung out with us drove down from there too.

A bit of a drive but not too bad. Found the absence of an F-9F, F-4, and F-14 a bit puzzeling since these are iconic naval aircraft. Nonetheless it was a good day.

I don't think that they had any they could fly in or get onto the runway for a static display. They do have them over in the USS Midway's displays.

We sent one of our S-3's down for a static display, the other one participated in the fly-over on Saturday.

I didn't even know about this. I live in Mission Valley. I was taking a walk and it got REALLY loud. I looked up and there were like 40 aircraft screaming toward Mission Trails. :Wow1:

Very cool stuff.

That had to be one of the coolest flyovers ever with all those different planes. Wish I could have seen it in person.

It was really cool By the time I spotted them they were right over the southwest part of Mission Trails so it was hard to see. But I definitely saw some Chinooks and what I think were C-17s.

But, there were 40 aircraft. So there had to be one of everything. :coffeedrink:

The Marines had a whole long flight of helicopter after helicopter. Their variants are the CH-46 Sea Knights which look similar to Chinooks but are smaller. If there were CH-47s in the fly by I missed them entirely. Sometimes my location blocked my view. I did not see the V-22 hover over the water and I could barely see the LCAC hovercraft as it approached over the water.
