The Marines had a whole long flight of helicopter after helicopter. Their variants are the CH-46 Sea Knights which look similar to Chinooks but are smaller. If there were CH-47s in the fly by I missed them entirely. Sometimes my location blocked my view. I did not see the V-22 hover over the water and I could barely see the LCAC hovercraft as it approached over the water.

I wish my brother in law would have told me about this event. I would have loved to have gone and seen it. :/

Jim,

THANK YOU FOR THIS POST! I drove down from the Bay Area to take my 93 year old dad to the event. Unfortunately, we had a medical event and spent the time in an urgent care facility instead.

Dad was a USCG enlisted pilot (AD) in 1942 flying TBFs with depth charges on sub patrols out of San Diego and Long Beach. He eventually was commissioned and completed a 30 year career in the Coast Guard as a LCDR.

He has a drawer full of Sikorsky Wings for helicopter rescues and may still hold the record for the farthest out to sea amphibian rescue when he landed a Grumman UF 1300 miles out to pick up a merchant seaman with a appendicitis.

I will be sharing your post with dad on Wednesday.

THANK YOU!

We watched the show from Silver Strand Beach cooking steaks and drinking beer watching the aircraft fly over the water. Saw the Blue Angels and numerous helicopters. You guys know how to put on an airshow! Enjoyed the almost 80 degree weather!

Thank you for sharing your Dad's story! I sent you a PM. Maybe I can do a little more for him than just a few pictures.
