I have seen several rtt mounted on racks that are attached to roof gutters on hard top jeeps. Anyone know what the weight capacity of a roof gutter is?

That info isn't hard to find using Google, this is from the Rhino Rack instructions:
From the JL Owner's manual:
Since the Rhino Rack weighs 11 lbs. and the manual states 100 lbs including the weight of the crossbars, it would appear that Rhino calculated the weight capacity by referring to the owners manual and subtracting the weight of their rack.

I don't know what was changed between the JL and JK roofs but I can't find anything solid that says the JK roof can hold ANY significant weight. The backbone systems offered that bolt to the sports bar, through the roof, look to be the only "roof rack" option other than @billiebob's suggestion above.
