Well....I took the plunge!!

Yes Portals are awesome...now you really have my spidy senses tingling :D It needs to be a daily driver too...so I'll have to do some research on ratio's. Front and rear air lockers will definitely part of the build!! Thanks or sharing the vid...

Is there a cap on your budget. ;) :D

So lets see...Carli Suspension, XP Camper, perhaps some portals to round out the package...prolly should up grade the sound system while you're at it... :p

Yes...unfortunately there will be a cap on the budget :D No XP camper though...it will most likely be a bed cage style build again with an RTT. What I'm contemplating now is whether I will incorporate the factory bed into the mix, or build the rear cargo control portion as some style of deck along with tube....or....

No XP!? bummer...I am really good at spending other people's money. :D

Sounds like it is going to be killer!

Being in Canada, I would probably do a SnugTop Outback topper, with a storage system to keep everything out of the elements.

I have a few ideas as to what I would like to build, but I'd also like to hear what other people would like to see in an ultimate full size?

Since I believe I already built one (at least "ultimate" for me) ... I'm curious to see what y'all do. :ylsmoke:

"Ultimate" means so many dif'rent thangs to dif'rent Folks.

You have a great point there Kowboy...everyone has different needs in a rig. Your's is pretty sweet, and I can see why it works so well for you!!

I think my idea of an "ultimate super duty" would be Gary and Monika Wescott's Turtle V. I really like everything they accomplished with it. If you are looking for inspiration, that's where I would start.

Turtle V is an awesome build. It is an awesome well rounded rig, although it wouldn't serve very well as a daily driver :) It definitely helps with some inspiration and ideas in many respects. However, my rig will still need be used as a DD....it will need to be like Clark Kent and Superman...which adds a bit of a twist to thing :)

No to derail but can you really daily drive portals? I feel like tey would would get got but I really have no idea...

I just watched the top gear on that 6x6 Mercedes and I swear portals are about as cool as it gets

I've been doing quite a bit of research on AxleTech portals (ever since Clutch put this bug in my ear). It would appear that they can handle whatever you throw at them as far as driving style, terrain etc... They offer a 1.5 times gear reduction and appear to be virtually indestructible. I'm just trying to get some more info from AxleTech...and If I decide to go this route I have a local driveline buddy that has some experience with them. My biggest issue right now is that I want to run a 4.5" Carli System, as it nets almost 12" of front wheel travel. The 4.5" height gain in the suspension combined with a 5" gain from the Portals will put me much higher than I really want to go. The trails etc. around our parts are height restricted enough for a full size as it is, and I'm not really that keen on such a high roll center for more high speed applications. Lot's to think about:D

It would almost be like a full size low COG build....I'd bet with a different spring/coilover setup you could keep most of that it would just be all droop and very little compression...

That would be cool, but the problem is that the truck is too heavy to achieve this. Firstly, you actually lose some suspension travel with a coil-over set-up with stock (or near stock) mounting points. I will be utilizing a coil/independent shock with a redesigned coil bucket/shock mount. These heavy trucks unfortunately need a decent amount of compression travel...or you will be hitting the bump stops during regular driving or higher speed offroad.
