what gps???

i know, i know, this subject has been discussed a few times, but being an electronic devise things change about every 3 days or so...

i need to get a new gps!
i want to use it for my expeditions (mainly) but also be able to load a road map of europe and find the way to the little oneway street in the dead-end neighborhood of small-town xyz...i just use it in the car, so no handheld needed.

what's your recommondtion?
what make would you choose?
what model?

oh,did i mention i don't want to spend a fortune?

hope that besides the info this will be an interesting discussion...

that's actually a great write-up.i thought about something similar but don't have a laptop to use. there is no real space in the jeep. one concern is the airbag (as mentioned in his thread too) mine comes down pretty low.
also dust is a concern. the laptop would always sit open and vulnurable to dust and dirt (afterall i want to use it oof-road )

but thanks for that great idea. i love it.maybe someday i can build something like that (with some help - i'm sure i'd need that )

any other recommandations - maybe a bit easier to install???

i remember another problem...
the cell phone reception is very poor (better not existant) in the middle of the sahara.
