I spent a few days with the Land Rover Discovery, a bed roll and my camera. Less is often more...

As an interesting stroke of timing, I traveled to Comb Ridge just as a significant new development in the mystery of Everett Ruess was being put to print.

What did you do? Roll up in a tarp and sleep on the ground?!?

A cot, 40 degree bag and a fleece liner for the higher elevations. I had a tarp for if it got wet. I prefer sleeping out on a cot or bedroll to a tent.

I do need to find the ultimate cot. Sounds like the start of a good test ;)

Very nice....simple, yeah I gotta move in that direction for my solo trips at least...family of 4 makes it tough when we all go.

I'm using the Roll-A-Cot and its fantastic. Easy to use, rolls up to a good size for travel and is actually quite comfortable. Also comes in two sizes.

Scott, you are my hero. I'll go so far as to say I'll take a sleeping bag and Thermarest on the ground/w no tent over the bed in my bed room (oh wait, my bed IS my sleeping bag and Thermarest...). I love just sleeping out under the stars!

Just for the record, I sleep in my sleeping bag at home only because I'm moving in a few months and don't want to buy a new mattress just to give it away a few months later. But just the same, I sleep like a rock! :victory:
