while looking for a discovery, found this....

hello to all, I have been looking for a Discovery II for quite a while, and in that search I found a 1994 RR Classic County Long wheel base. I have always like the look of them but never did much research on them, more so on the Discovery side, I have always enjoyed the Disco's driving position and the way they handle. I had a 2001 for a while and truly enjoyed it. Now this RR has my attention, it has 70k and it seems to be real millage, as the story goes from the PO he bought it with 17k and drove it until 69k and then his attention went to his Defender, a friend of mine purchase it to do some off-roading and when he realized how much it cost to lift it and do some work offered it to me. the interior is pristine, and the engine is very smooth in all gears and no overheating issues. everything works, windows, radio, ac, all lights, and most amazingly not one light in the dash (warning light) is on :)

the only thing is the paint, no rust at all but the paint is fading a bit. It is a dark blue with tan interior. While driving a bit and leaving it on for a while the only thing I noticed is how hot the front hood got by the driver side near the front glass windshield. no where else was it that hot. Any information on this model would be appreciated. I have never owned a RR, so I am truly a newbie to this model. I have lurked for a long time here since I have had Landcruisers, Jeep's, and thr Disco.

The friend wants to trade it to me for a 1998 Chevy cheyenne I have with 182k that I use as a daily driver. Although I do some offroad, its by no means hardcore, mostly getting to camp sites and beaches here in Puerto Rico.

At any rate, all commments are welcome and saludos from PR!

Dan

EDIT: it has a 4.2 v8

Not to be cinical but are you sure the lights are working on the dash? :) My next rover will def be a RRC and I love the LWB. I don't know much about them yet however, I have my hands full figuring out the ones I have. Either way you should post some pics!

The biggest issues to my mind are rust and the heater core, as it's a puta to replace.

You may not need heat in PR, though.

believe me I thought about it!!! :)

I will post some pics now, today I drove it for a while, at one point the oil light came on but then turned off, the low end stick does not move and that could be something simple... the driver side seat does not move and the radio is in code mode

yeah no heater EVER needed here, but today I saw the rear hatch has some rust, no rust under the RR at all, also under the back doors it has some spots

thanks for the reply, from the lack of answers it seems they are not so popular here.........

With the rust I would think very carefully about buying it.

The rust is a cancer. It may be unavoidable on an island, but I'd like you to have a complete understanding of what you might get into.

Hatches rust.. It's almost a given, new ones can be had for a reasonable price.. Watch out for the rust at the rear doors, check it out carefully..
I love RRC's, I'm sorry we sold ours.

pull of the driver and passenger side carpets and inspect the floorpans. if they are only lightly rusted then it's probably nothing that can't be repaired. if you find a pile of big rust flakes then move along! also take an ice pick and get under the truck and poke at the frame. esp. at oil spots that might be concealing rust. also while you're under there, do some test pokes at the floor pan in various places. If it's a strong frame, relatively rust-free tub and you have patience I say go for it. The LWB has a great ride and there's plenty of room in it.

once you get the truck, I'd recommend spending some quality time removing the carpets and thoroughly inspecting the tub and taking care of any rust spots. have the undercarriage pressure washed, get it on a rack for another thorough inspection and take it down somewhere for a good undercoat. You might also consider replacing the hardware for the body mounts at the same time and fix any cracked pucks. They can get noisy over time and can be annoying while off-road when the frame is under load.

edit: that's a great color! not too many like it ...

fwiw.
