We were down there a year or so ago and decided to stay on the north side of the highway exploring.

Your pics now make it an absolute must next time we're down there!

Oh, those sneaky photographers know all about it! They are just tight-lipped and were probably skulking nearby...

Truth! I have been going there for about 6 years- probably 8 or 9 trips total. When I first found out about it I was sworn to secrecy by the BLM rangers and I have still never posted photos by its name on the internet. Now it is all over the web and will soon become permit only just like The Wave. In all my previous trips, all of which were two day trips, I had never encountered anyone else there but when I went twice this fall there were several other people as well as guides out of Page and UT.

Glad you enjoyed your time there but it does suck that the secret is out.

Yeah, hopefully the road stays pretty rough limiting the number of people who can get out there. Thankfully I didn't see any impact from visitors on the formations themselves aside from footprints on some of the snow patches. If anything, the historic ranching in the area scarred the landscape much more than a bunch of photographers ever will, but we have the ranchers to thank for the roads allowing us to get out there in a vehicle.

Yeah, the roads are most passable in winter but as you found out it is also really cold. Summer is when the sand gets really soft and deep, monsoon season provides great light but the roads can get washed out.

The frozen pools you got were pretty cool!
