Why not in USA? Australian Style Folding Camper Trailers - Front, Rear, Side folding - Hard floor, Soft Floor

On another note, keeping it closer to the OP topic... Does anyone from the tent manufacturers make a trailer tent that would open up like the AUS ones? I'm thinking a tent that can be added to any offroad trailer like the standard RTT's are, but opens up much bigger dropping all the way to the ground.

Hi from Brisbane Aust.
I built my trailer from scratch 5 years ago and put one of these tents on top.
Perfect for the 2 of us.
We have just finished a month trip thru central Australia.
The tent went up and down 18 times in 26 days.
7,500 kilometers,4000 of that was gravel and bulldust and sand and corrugations.
Rod.

I've got a Black Series Dominator. Bought used because the company is full of aholes so they didn't get my money. Once you address all the chinese junk in them, they are great. Weigh about 3200lbs dry. Pull behind an old 4runner. A bit tough on hill climbs but otherwise she does fine. I could easily spend an entire summer in one. The canvas is heavy and functions well in rain. Would I do it again? Nope! I'd buy a no-name brand off alibaba for a SMOKING PRICE and make the same upgrades and save even more.

The Crux is exactly the same. I have the 2700. Both companies are having them built at the same factory no doubt. My problem is support is absolutely terrible. I wish you could see the emails back and forth for some things. It's as if you have to restart a complete conversation over and over again. I would like to find out where to source poles and such. If anybody has an idea. please let me know.

before i bought, i was in contact w/ both companies. crux owner, who was fielding all inquiries at the time was almost impossible to speak with. I knew right there i wasn't going a step further w/ crux.

i really believe the best way to get one of these is to buy an unbranded one off alibaba. You'll still be flush with cash to make any and every possible upgrade you could want. can't wait to get mine out there this season.

These Ultimate Campers are awesome - I hear murmurings of them coming to the USA - King size Bed, internal kitchen and quite light. A lot of the Chinese campers are really really heavy compared to both the ultimate below and say a Aussie made Cub Camper. Both of these campers are well respected locally.

The Chinese versions are hit and miss. Some owners love them others have had major issues with them. But they are cheapish.

I started looking at alibaba.com. I found a boatload of tents and such that are exactly what I currently have (Crux 2700). I'm pretty convinced not a single MDC, Black Series, nor Crux is made anywhere but China. It makes sense now when i am waiting for a single pole from Crux that I get a lot of "it's in the mail". They don't manufacture a damn thing. They simply neglected to get a supply of extra parts. I guess they thought they were gonna just sell these and then never hear from the buyer again, but create an imaginary warranty.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. There is added value here. I did not want to build it myself. Frankly, except for a couple frustrating issues, the camper / trailer is stellar. I have used it once and when I have dealt with the problems then I think I will be satisfied. It does turn out that possibly the dealer may have shown it a bit, and thus some of the things that were wrong with it was their fault. We did set camp with it a couple of weekends ago and it was a blast. My wife absolutely loves the thing.

I think these companies do need to do a better job of after sales support. It would be so easy to have dedicated customers. I still want to recommend the Crux trailers. I'll eventually post my experiences pretty soon. In the end, I just want to be able to keep the trailer running for a long time. That means parts availability and information.

Yeh, the people that started the company were boat builders so it's a fibreglass construction.

These things have both terrific retention of original purchase price and if you ask an owner about them you'll get your leg chewed off with how good they are. Used a lot for outback travel here in Aus, tough as with fully independent suspension. To my mind the fibreglass isn't an issue. Weight is around the 900kg mark (2000lb) so very light compared to others.

huh? who said anything about building one yourself. you buy a completed one on alibaba and replace the chinese junk parts. only difference is you're paying a lot less for the trailer up front. ...and you don't get fancy decals on the side.
